Abu Garcia's stout hybrid drag system is a standout. You'll also see a very cool MagTrax brake system that is common in more expensive Revos.
As part of Game & Fish's series of reviews of the best baitcasters 2018, we look at the Abu Garcia Revo X.
Tested recently at Lake El Salto in Mexico by Game & Fish staff, Abu Garcia's new addition to the Revo line blends performance and style at an affordable price ($99.95).
With features matching reels priced considerably higher, the Revo X is a solid performer, and at 7.8 ounces, it fishes comfortably and has more than enough grit to battle fat line-stretchers.

At El Salto, a legendary big-bass destination, this reel stood up to an onslaught of giant bass weighing 5 to 8 pounds.

What distinguishes it? The tough lightweight alloy frame houses 7 stainless-steel ball bearings (plus one roller bearing), a smooth hybrid drag system and brass gears for extended life. The MagTrax brake system provides consistent brake pressure and is found on many other upper-end Abu Garcia reels. The reel feels great in hand, and comes in 5.4:1, 6.6:1 and 7.3:1 gear ratios, making it easy to find the exact model to fit your favorite application.
High-end features previously found only in more expensive reels? The X carries the vaunted Revo moniker, one synonymous with on-the-water performance. The hybrid drag system is stout, offering anglers the ability to wrestle big fish from thick cover, while offering the agility to finesse those same fish around the boat, where most are lost due to drag fumbles.
