Choosing the Right Bass Rod Made Simple

Dr. Todd A. Kuhn goes inside the numbers in this episode of Beyond the Bait Powered by Streamlight.

It’s right there, printed by the manufacturer of your bass-fishing rod.

Those numbers — denoting length, power, line class and lure weight of the rod — tell you exactly what you need to know.

In Episode 9 ("Choosing the Right Rod") of Beyond the Bait Powered by Streamlight, host Dr. Todd A. Kuhn says understanding your fishing rod’s ratings will help you match the right rod to your preferred style of fishing. Finesse bass fishing, for example, generally requires a much lighter rod setup than power techniques.

"It's that simple," says Kuhn, who goes in depth about rod length, power, line class and lure weight in the episode. Those numbers impact casting distance, casting accuracy, hook-setting, lure size and weight, and lure action.

Learn more about rod selection for bass fishing in the video above.
