Columbia, South Carolina - During this year's Professional Outdoor Media Association Business Conference down in South Carolina, manufacturers brought out some of their best and brightest for the world to see. Rifles, packs, deer stands and grills were just a few of the items out on display. But the thing that caught my eye was the Real Avid's new Revelation knife.

"It was the first hunting knife with integrated LED lights in it," said Real Avid's Nick Grzechowiak. "When you see it either you get it or you don't."

That's when he painted a picture ... it went something like this.

After an early morning ramble through the dense fallen woods, you've been sitting in a deer stand for the better part of the day. You're cold, you're tired and you're covered in sweat. All you can think is where the heck are the deer. As the sun starts to set, you come to grips with the idea that there will be no deer for you. The only thing left is a three mile hike back to the truck. That's when everything comes together.

See the deer, shoot the deer, kill the deer. Now all you have to do is to field dress the deer. Probably the last thing you want to do at the end of a long, cold day in the woods. That's where the Revelation comes into play.

"The best hunting doesn't happen at high noon," Grzechowiak explained. "Most shots are either taken at sunrise or sunset. That means you end up with a flashlight in your mouth and a knife in your hand. How safe is that?"

That was the inspiration for the Revelation ... to make it safe. How do they do that? With a four inch blade that comes equipped with a soft rubber handled grip, surgical quality steel, replacement batteries and beams of light that end up 'where you need it when you need it'.

Best of all, it ensures you can see what you're doing at the end of a long, tiring day.

As Nick asked, "When else would it be okay for you to use a knife in the dark?"
