Costa Del Mar Sunglasses: A Fisherman's Dream
June 10, 2016

Steve Newman, field staff for Gary’s Outdoor News & Reviews, had the pleasure of trying out a pair of the Costa Del Mar sunglasses for the first time and putting them to the test. Newman can now say he knows why they have the reputation they have.
The pair he tried were the new Blackfin Sunglasses in a solid Realtree Xtra Camo, including the case and matching lens cloth. The blue mirror UV 580p lenses are scratch proof, polarized, lightweight and impact resistant. After taking them out of the case, Newman immediately noticed the quality of the frames and hinges. They felt solid and yet, they were feather light. The Costa limited lifetime warranty backs up his first impressions.
After using them around town, falling in love with how they fit and how well the 580P lenses blocked the sun, we took a trip out on Lake St. Clair to try our hand on the small mouth bass that the lake is famous for. While flying out to the fishing spot, Newman says the fit was such that he hadn’t any fear of them coming off and were snug enough that they didn’t even move. They were so comfortable that he actually forgot he was wearing them at one point. Now, the best part was that Newman had never fished with green lenses before and he wondered how they would work. His thoughts were soon answered as the sun began to glare on the calm lake. Limiting his eye strain due to sun glare, the polarized glasses performed flawlessly. Newman mentioned he was looking forward to using them in a bow fishing tourney that’s coming.
Pinching pennies in the past on sunglasses, thinking the lower end polarized glasses were good enough, Newman has now realized you get what you pay for. Having used cheap sunglasses and mid-range sunglasses, I can attest to his statement that Costa does make awesome sunglasses. I have experienced no eye strain even after a day on the lake or in the winter with the all-day glare of the snow. With the no glare Real Tree Xtra Camo frames they may be a companion during certain hunting days as well.
