The Strike King Pro Model Series 5XD crankbait adds another dimension to an already stellar line-up of crankbaits. Top to bottom, from shallow to deep and the expansion of this line up gives the angler more tools in different levels in the water column.

Much like a set of wrenches to a mechanic, Strike King has a series of baits in their Pro-Model Crankbait line up designed for each application. Fishing super shallow, the Mini 3, Series 1, Series 1XS or the Series 4S can be used. The new KVD Square Bill 1.5 and 2.5 are the ticket when a wide wobble is needed. Medium depths may call for a Series 3, Series 4, Series 5 or Series 6. When probing deep channel bends or long tapering points the Series 6XD dials them in. The Series 6XD dives to 17 feet. Even with these specifically designed models something was missing. Not anymore.

The new Series 5XD was just introduced, and on 12-pound Sufix fluorocarbon, it consistently dives to 15 feet. We tested the Series 5XD on a Ardent XS1000 reel and a St. Croix Legend Xtreme rod. Because of the compact size and aerodynamic properties of the bait, it casts extremely well. Super long casts were routine, even in harsh Midwest winds. It gets to depth quickly as well.

The cupped design of the long lip gives it a great bite, and we believe adds to the action as well. The line tie position is perfect for this bait nearly in the center of the lip.  We noticed bites came when the bait got to depth, hit an object and then kicked out off that object. The bait kicks out nicely, and with this bait, that is a good thing because it returns quickly back to diving. We really liked how smoothly the bait ran and even after throwing it for a long period it didn’t wear us out or cause fatigue. We threw the green gizzard shad and sexy blueback herring colors.

The entire water column is covered with the Strike King Pro-Model Crankbait Series. All baits have free floating rattles and 3D eyes and durable paint schemes.

The Series 5XD runs great out of the package, and because it comes in 36 colors, there is a color for every water color or situation.
