Tune In For Live Hunt
Trey Merrit

HUTCHINSON, Kan. -- Trey Merritt is only 11 years old, but he already has a distinguished hunting career.

It’s about to get better during an inaugural “Live Deer Hunt” on OutdoorChannel.com. Beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET Tuesday, October 22, 2013, Merritt will be the featured guest of a ground-breaking effort by Outdoor Channel to bring live hunts to its audience.

“This is something totally new,’’ said Mike Williams, vice-president of digital media for Outdoor Channel. “Our audience loves to tune into the network to watch their heroes hunt and fish around the world.

“A live-streamed hunt on OutdoorChannel.com gives them the opportunity to go on a hunt with one of our guests while sitting at their desks during the work week.”

The stream is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. ET Tuesday, October 22, 2013, weather permitting, and will run for approximately three hours. The length could be shorter or longer, depending on the action of the hunt.

At center stage will be Merritt, a young hunter from DeWitt, Ark. Merritt made headlines six years ago at the age of 5 when he killed a black bear in Arkansas. The kill was made even more special by the fact that Merritt is Davy Crockett’s sixth great grandson.

On Monday, he arrowed his biggest buck to date near Hutchinson, Kan., that will score in the 150-inch range. That story will soon be featured in the Deer Camp section of OutdoorChannel.com.

Merritt still has a doe tag and will be hunting with John Butler of Buck Forage Oats. The two hope to fill a buck and doe tag in the morning.

Viewers can watch the action live by clicking on this link. Questions can be asked and will be answered live during the hunt. Those wishing to ask questions can comment at the bottom of the page or go to the Outdoor Channel page on Facebook.

Upcoming hunts will feature live hunts with Knight and Hale, Lee and Tiffany Lakosky from Crush with Lee & Tiffany, and many more.
