Summit Cup Elimination Round Launches on Familiar Waters

When the MLF brigade pulled up to the Nelson Park Boat Ramp on Pool 7 of the Mississippi River to start the Jack Link’s Major League Fishing 2016 General Tire Summit Cup, it didn’t take long for the 10 pros fishing Elimination Round 1 to start comparing notes.
While many of the MLF competitors had a sneaking suspicion the Mississippi River would figure into the La Crosse, Wis., venue, none knew to what extent the river would play a role or even which pools or specific areas of the pools would be in play.
Pools 7, 8 and 9 are popular stops for various tournament circuits. Most notable, the Bassmaster Elite Series held events across these three pools in 2012 and 2013, meaning a majority of the MLF competitors had experience on the Mississippi. Hence, as an early fog lifted off of Pool 7 to reveal mats of vegetation, the pros’ thoughts and comments came to light simultaneously with the morning dawn.
Kevin VanDam was the first to offer up a reaction.
