Simple Pan-Fried Trout Recipe

Bring the outdoors to your dinner table with this backpacking-friendly pan-fried trout recipe

Servings: 4

This pan-fried trout recipe is easy to make at home or in the outdoors. We take cornmeal and butter packets on our backpacking trips and then hope to catch dinner.

Ingredients:

2 pounds trout (whole or fillets)
1/2 cup cornmeal
3 tablespoons butter
Salt and pepper

Preparation:

Rinse the trout under cold running water (or in the beautiful mountain lake or stream you caught them in).

Pat dry.

Sprinkle with salt and pepper. (I take a Ziplock baggie in my pack with salt, pepper and garlic powder mixed together.)

Melt the butter in a large heavy skillet on medium-high heat.

Coat the trout in corn meal and shake off the excess.

When the butter is melted, place the coated trout, flesh side down, in the skillet.
