In some anglers' minds, there's nothing more important in catching a trophy fish than fishing with the right line, whether it be monofilament, braided or fluorocarbon.
All have their place in your gear bag, depending on fishing style and targeted species. Braid for sensitivity, fluorocarbon for invisibility and mono for stretch on hook-sets and overall bouyancy. Combine them in a main line/leader rig to maximize the properties.
But any fishing line that can't boast of castability, knot strength and abrasion resistance is probably going to let you down when that big bass comes tugging on your rig.
Fortunately for modern anglers, fishing lines get better every year as super-line technology offers superior features compared to lines made just a decade ago.
The hot new fishing lines below were all featured at ICAST 2021 this summer in Orlando, where Game & Fish editors got a closer look at what's new.

P-Line Spin-X Braid
P-Line Spin-X Braid is the first spinning reel-specific braided line on the market. Featuring a color change from hi-vis blue to vi-vis orange every meter, it is visible in all weather conditions, making it easier to detect the slightest strike. Constructed using eight carriers of fiber, Spin-X is manufactured to be soft and smooth, allowing the line to fly off the spool for long casts and quick descents. Available in 8-, 12-, 16-, 20- and 24-pound test in 150-yard spools. ($17.99; p-line.com)
Named Best of Category at ICAST 2021 (Fishing Line), the affordably priced BasiX is made of 100-percent custom Seaguar fluorocarbon resins, and is virtually invisible underwater. Knot strength and abrasion resistance you'd expect from Seaguar. Soft, supple and easy to cast. ($9.99; seaguar.com)
Performance features makes this braid a good choice for everyday anglers. TactX is engineered to maintain a perfectly round shape and stay firm to minimize rod-tip wrapping and wind knots. With a pebble texture to add durability and help cut through vegetation. It's woven from multicolor earth-tone strands that are heat-set for better color retention and to create a natural camo. New SpiderWire DuraBraid is 25 percent more abrasion-resistant than Power Pro, according to the manufacturer. Providing strong knots with super shock absorbency, it may be the toughest braid on the market. Designed for maximum abrasion resistance against what anglers fear most - rocks, dock, boat hoists, heavy vegetation and timber. Available in low-vis green color and offered in 150-, 300- and 3,000-yard spools, with test ratings from 6 to 80 pounds. ($13.99; purefishing.com)
