Avedon & Colby’s new Estate Jacket.
June 11, 2019
(Press Release) Black Earth, WI — Avedon & Colby's elegant new Estate Jacket takes the classic waxed cotton jacket to a new level of quality, style, functionality and waterproof technology. Sewn with incredible attention to detail from a unique dry-finish waxed-cotton fabric made by Halley Stevensons in Dundee, Scotland, the new Estate Jacket is washable, making it easy to maintain. And, unlike many conventional waxed-cotton jackets, its dry finish will not rub-off or stain car seats like paraffin-based waxed cotton fabrics.
A distinctive diamond quilted design and wide-wale corduroy collar and collar liner provide cool-weather comfort, and a flip-up collar extension keeps the back of your neck warm and dry when the wind is at your back. Both the collar and extension are constructed with a military-style “zig-zag” stitch to keep them rigid without adding additional thickness or weight, so the collar extension stays up without curling or folding back on itself. A fold-back corduroy throat latch will keep the wind from blowing down your neck in foul weather.
Unique performance features include a generous, full-length bi-swing back that extends from the top of each shoulder to the waist and expands to prevent pulling on the sleeves when arms are thrust forward when driving, shooting or using binoculars. The bi-swing returns to its original position when arms are relaxed to prevent ballooning and to maintain a trim, snag-free profile.
Tailored side panels replace traditional side seams (which are cheaper to sew) to separate the front and rear jacket panels to reduce transfer of torque so the jacket body does not twist or pull when rotating your shoulders. The unique double-reversed underarm gussets allow for more freedom of arm movement by reducing pulling on the jacket's sleeve when arms are raised or rotated, a problem with many traditional waxed cotton jackets.
Four patch pockets feature functional box pleats and A&C's signature notched pocket flaps that tuck in without puckering – and to prevent snagging on a gun butt while shooting. Two side entry pockets are located behind the lower patch pockets and two zipped security pockets drop behind the upper patch pockets, which are sized to protect a wallet, passport, cash or cell phone.
The jacket closes with a two-way, 100% brass, heavy-duty YKK zipper with an antique finish -- and a four-button storm flap. A corduroy throat latch and two-button leakproof sleeve cuffs keep out the weather. Fully lined with a smooth-finished tattersall twill and a 100% polyester mesh back panel to wick away perspiration, the lower skirt interior features 500-denier Cordura® treated with a waterproof finish to create a side-entry game bag that unzips for cleaning – or to provide a waterproof seat for sitting on a wet log or bench.
The new Estate Jacket is offered in Small through XXL, retails for $495, and is available at www.avedoncolby.com
