MTI Calcutta Personal Flotation Device

Most adults only need 7 to 12 pounds of buoyancy to keep their heads above water. The Calcutta gives you that and more. With 16 pounds and 12 ounces of designed buoyancy, this life jacket will keep the majority of adults’ heads way above the water.
The Calcutta is a great Personal Flotation Device (PFD) for kayak anglers. It is loaded with features such as: four zippered pockets with internal organization, two lash tabs, reflective trim, nine points of adjustment (kid to adult), and two D-rings.
Having used this several times, it has become my default PFD when going out in my kayak. The orange color makes it easy to spot me should an emergency happen, but it comes in khaki color as well.

I have found this PFD to adjust easily and quickly, even on hot days. The side ventilation and light weight material helped keep me cool and comfortable. The adjustable neoprene padded shoulder straps only add to the comfort. The ripstop fabric is designed not to tear, should you get caught by a flying hook or run through some limbs on a river (don’t ask). I should note that this is a type III USCG PFD. You should always read up and learn what type of PFD is best for you, as it depends on your size and on the type of activity you will be doing.
Overall, I have to say the Calcutta is a great PFD for the kayak angler and more. I would personally like to see the back tapered down, to make sitting in a kayak seat more comfortable. More pockets and lashing for gear are always good too, but adding features always adds to the final cost. For a PFD under $100.00, this is a great purchase.
