Technically, there might be just a little bit of time left on the March calendar before the spring equinox officially arrives, but odds are, we're all just about done with the idea of winter.
Fleece sweaters and a cozy fire as you sip hot chocolate? That's cute, and maybe we'll all be ready for that a few months from now at Christmastime, but right now, we're all ready to dig out the swimsuits, spend some time at the beach, and indulge ourselves in some sort of tropical drink.
Wind chill? Forget about it, it's time for some sunscreen and bright rays overhead, and maybe, a lake day. And for goodness sakes, mowing the lawn, well, that's a little bit more desirable right now than the idea of shoveling snow, right?
In other words, Old Man Winter, take the hint and hit the road, because it's time for the 2023 version of the Great American Spring !

Make no mistake about it, there will be plenty of professional expertise on display here over the next few weeks. But there's also a heavy lean on the can-do and do-it-yourself spirit that makes our American land so great, a way of life that we cherish. Better yet, we'll try and show a few pathways to springtime success that anyone can find and follow, whether seasoned veteran or a beginner, all of it designed to make this spring the best one yet.
As everything greens up, we'll have tips on lawn care, landscaping your home, and even getting your land ready for wildlife and fish to flourish and have a great year, too. From simple ideas to the complex, we're going to help you get the back 40 ready for an incredible spring.
Closer to the back door of your home, there's nothing like a pellet smoker or a grill sending delightful smells to dinner guests who have gathered in the backyard or on the deck in anticipation of a great evening meal. Add in a few fireflies as twilight arrives, the mild spring temperatures, the lush smells of honeysuckle and other aromatic vegetation greening up, and you can expect plenty of innovative content centered around getting out back and enjoying your deck, patio, outdoor furniture, and entertainment options.
Speaking of out back, if you're a fan of Game & Fish, then you've probably got a pretty good idea already concerning what to put on the menu this spring. From succulent cuts of venison to waterfowl and upland birds to the latest catch in freshwater and the salty stuff too, we're all about the field-to-fork experience here. But if your dinner gatherings this spring are centered more around steaks, burgers, and chicken, well, also expect a little help there on the recipes and cooking front.
No protein placed steaming onto a dinner plate is complete this spring without a few vegetables and sides, so we're going to help you out there too, including how-to content about gardening and the tools necessary to grow some of your own food and make it all happen. Whether you've got a big space out back, or something on the smaller side, expect plenty of help here in getting your green thumb on.
If springtime invites laughter and food-laden celebrations outside with family and friends, the longer hours of sunlight, ample sunshine and warmth, and a desire to get everything ship shape also brings plenty of work opportunity as well. From around the house, to the front and back yards, and even out in the garage, a to-do list can be long during the spring months. But don't let that list overwhelm you, because we're going to do everything we can to help out there. Whether it's content centered around new projects, maintenance and upkeep ideas, or simply coming up with a few creative ways to find more efficient storage, it's all a part of the Great American Spring ’23 effort!
The bottom line is that whether your springtime plans include a grill, firepit, tractor, lawnmower, or simply kicking back in a lawn chair as you and your loved ones enjoy an evening spent watching an incredible sunset, we've got you covered with the Great American Spring '23 campaign.
It all starts soon, so be sure to check in often as we raise the curtain on having the best springtime yet, all of it starting right here at Game and Fish Magazine !
