February Sauger & Bass Fishing in Tennessee is Hot in 2014

February Sauger & Bass Fishing in Tennessee is Hot in 2014
Here's where to catch the best trout action in Tennessee this February.

Have you noticed there are fewer days that you have to wait for frost to melt on your boat seats, and the days are longer? These are signs we have more time on the water.

This year's calendar can help to pick the hot places to fish for your favorite species. So get your highlighter out and mark the honey holes you want to fish this year.

Let's take a look at a few of the options available for February bass fishing in Tennessee and other great species.

Here's a sample of some great destinations to help you plan your next fishing trip and be sure to check out the solunar fishing calendar on In-Fisherman!

Watauga Lake

Bundle up and bring your finesse baits to East Tennessee's mountains. Watauga Lake's deep structures are ideal for smallies. A 3-inch smoke-colored grub on a 1/8-ounce jighead angled down the bluffs and main points not far from the dam are the places to hook smallies. Watauga's ultra-clear water is also ideal for the float and fly technique. You find smallies at 20 feet deep and that requires a long pole to whip a fly to cover that depth. And it's not too early to use crawfish — live or artificial.

Norris Lake's smallmouth bass fall for imitation and real crayfish cast along the rocky banks. Minnows dropped off the main channel points give you a good shot at Mr. Small Jaws. Anglers claim February is the best smallmouth month.

Drifting and casting chartreuse grubs down the banks of upper Barkley Lake, just below Cheatham Dam, can hook you up with battling stripes. Look for them along the creek channels, especially where the river channel swings close to bluffs. Also hit gravel or mud points at creek mouths.
