Thanks to changes in state regulations and more availability, the use of suppressors for hunting big game and predators is gaining interest throughout the country. A suppressor attaches to a rifle's muzzle. Its internal baffles trap and redirect gasses pushing a bullet through, thus reducing noise with minimal effect on the bullet's flight.
Here are some of the latest suppressors for hunting from the 2024 SHOT Show in Las Vegas.
Silencer Central Buck 30 The Buck 30 by Banish was launched in partnership with the Buck Commander team. It's a high-performance suppressor designed for hunting, made with fully welded stainless steel and with eight baffles. The first one is an accuracy baffle to help minimize the effect on bullets. It has six thread options, is 6.9 inches and works with all rifle calibers up to .300 Win Mag.
Sig Sauer SLX Sig Sauer's new SLX series of suppressors, developed for the U.S. military, features a Clutch-Lok QD mounting system and different internal design. The multi-flow design, instead of traditional baffles, helps move and eliminate gasses at a faster rate. Shooters will see a noticeable reduction of fumes. The SLX series is designed for supersonic ammunition.

Savage's new AccuCan line of suppressors fit a variety of needs. (Photo by Drew Warden) New AccuCan Suppressors from Savage Arms range from the AC22 to AC338, offering numerous possibilities for hunters. Lightweight and tough, the internal design helps reduce decibel levels along with flash and felt recoil. Even better, you can service these in the field should you encounter a curveball from Mother Nature or other issues.
Watchtower Jedburgh Hunters will appreciate the light weight of the Watchtower Jedburgh thanks to its titanium construction. It's designed for 30-caliber rifles up to .300 Norma Mag, including bolt-action, semi-auto and full auto. The Jedburgh is 8 inches long, has a monocore baffle design to reduce backpressure, and a black PVD coating.
Daniel Defense SoundGuard Daniel SoundGuard 556 is designed for .223 Rem and 5.56 rifles, with a patented baffle system and proprietary coating that significantly reduces flash. The SG-556 suppressor's unique design eliminates over-gassing while reducing noxious fumes and gasses directed to the shooter. The SoundGuard suppressor also is available in a .30-caliber titanium option.

Dead Air Silencers Sierra-5 Keymo Small and lightweight, the Sierra-5 Keymo 5.56 from Dead Air Silencers is designed for heavy or continuous firing situations. For hunters, this should be great news. The Keymo uses Dead Air R-Series front caps and is HUB compatible, offering numerous mounting options. It is 6.27 inches long and weighs 15.4 ounces, with a stainless-steel tube and Stellite baffles. It is caliber-rated for 5.56, .223 Rem and .224 Valkyrie.
SilencerCo Velos SilencerCo released three new suppressors this year: the Spectre 9, Velos 5.56 K and Velos LBP 7.62, each designed for multiple calibers and situations. The titanium Spectre 9 is designed for pistol and subgun platforms, is compatible with 9mm and subsonic 300 BLK, and weighs just 3.9 ounces with no mounts. The Velos 5.56 K and Velos LBP 7.62 are variations of SilencerCo’s first low back pressure silencer, the Velos 5.56 LBP. The Velos K is a shorter version of the original Velos at just 4.76 inches. It still provides the shooter with the benefits of reduced gas, but in a compact and maneuverable package. The Velos 7.62 will accommodate calibers up to .300 RUM for compatibility with more host firearms.
