Outdoor Sportsman Group digital editor accepts challenge to shoot high-recoil rifle used to hunt Cape buffalo
During “Industry Day at the Range,” the day before the SHOT Show begins, Jessyca Sortillon, digital editor for Outdoor Sportsman Group, was challenged by a representative from Rigby Gunmakers, Simon Barr, to shoot an R8 safari rifle chambered for the .416 Remington Magnum cartridge.
Used to hunt Africa safari big game, such as Cape buffalo, the .416 Remington Magnum cartridge packs some significant recoil due to the large powder charge and heavy bullet.
According to Barr, “Most men won’t shoot this gun.”
Watch as Sortillon accepts the challenge, steps to plate and shoots the Rigby freehand. Best we can tell from the video, the recoil pushed her shoulder back nearly one foot.
“It’s not too bad; it's a wild one,” stated Sortillon with a tiny bit of hesitation.
