Taking an RV trip to any of the northern reaches of Michigan or Minnesota is a great adventure, but you don't want to get there and find out you've left some of the most important gear items at home. Here is a handy checklist of items those headed to the Upper Midwest won't want to forget this summer.

Cameras
Our phones are a great tool for snap shots and the ability to upload instantly to any number of social media outlets to share with friends and family make them essentials. But if you're really looking to take some great shots this summer, a quality DSLR is the only way to go. Just remember to take a spare battery or charger along in your car or RV. Likewise, a waterproof bag is the only way to go if you plan on taking your photo gear on the water with you.

Insect Relief
Repellent is a must along with a quality sunscreen, but in camp one of the repellent lanterns or other products from Thermacell are an absolute must. One of these little devices will keep your entire campsite mosquito free. You can find them online, in the big outdoor sporting goods outlets or in most of the big box stores. Trust me, try one of these and you won't go anywhere without one again.
Sun Protection
Keeping your family protected from the sun is extremely important. Today's quality sunscreen products have never been better and there are a most of UV protective clothing items out there as well. A hat is essential as is a buff to protect your face and ears if you're planning on spending a full day on the water. Add a pair of UV protective gloves if you plan on padding or fishing to keep the backs of your hands protected.
