WFN's Top Catches - Fish Stuck in Throat, Cougar Encounter, The Bear who Broke Into an Outhouse
John Travolta’s life may have its share of unbelievable tales, but he’s got nothing on this week’s installment of WFN’s Top Catches!
What a Cougar!
And no, we’re not talking about Demi Moore. A group of power plant workers in a small boat were travelling through B.C.’s Sechelt Inlet when they almost ran into a swimming cougar. At first, it seems as though they’re going to attempt to bring the animal into their boat, but smarter heads prevail, and they quickly move out of its reach. Incredibly, they got the entire incident on video, which you can watch here.
Most anglers know that certain types of sturgeon can grow to be pretty large, but it’s rare to see a behemoth like this one. A group of fishermen recently caught a Kaluga sturgeon, also known as a river beluga, in China’s Heilongjiang River that weighed an astonishing 1,360 lbs. This particular species of sturgeon is said to be the largest freshwater fish in the world, and specimens have grown to be as large as 18 feet long, and weighed up to 2,220 lbs. HUGE!
Let Me Clear My Throat
Take a deep breath before you read this story. A 12-year-old boy was recently fishing in Kuala Lumpur when he landed a 4 cm long “climbing perch.” After removing the hook, he went to bite the head off of the fish in order to kill it (which is apparently common practice), when it slipped into his mouth and lodged itself in his throat. After several hours, the boy’s father finally took him to the hospital, where the fish was surgically removed.
Grin and Bear It
Using an outhouse can be an unpleasant experience even at the best of times, but this truly takes the cake! A 63-year-old man was on a fishing trip in the remote Sioux Lookout, Ontario, when he felt the need to have a seat on the throne. While he was taking care of business, a black bear suddenly broke into the outhouse and attempted to drag the man away. His screams were heard by his friend, who came running and shot the bear, killing it. Talk about a crappy experience!
A Great White Encounter
This amazing video shows what happens when an Australian fishing boat has an up-close-and-personal encounter with a fearsome great white shark. The crew of the boat had a blue shark tied to a rope, and the great white decided to make it a snack. As you can see from the video, it quickly turns into a near-feeding frenzy.
