WFN: World Fishing Network Launches 2011 Search for Canada's Ultimate Fishing Town

Winning Community Receives $25,000 Donation and a 30-Minute TV Show About Their Town On WFN

In response to the overwhelming success of last year's nationwide search for Canada's Ultimate Fishing Town, WFN: World Fishing Network, North America's only 24/7 fishing channel, today announces the 2011 WFN's Ultimate Fishing Town Canada search. Last year, the small community of Port Alberni, BC, population of just 18,000 residents, was named the 2010 WFN's Ultimate Fishing Town Canada.

The winning community of the WFN's Ultimate Fishing Town Canada 2011 search will be awarded a $25,000 donation to be used towards fishing-related cause(s), receive 10 WaveSpin Reels and have a 30-minute feature show about fishing in their town air on WFN. The top two runner-ups will also receive a cash prize.

"Last year's search was historic as nearly one million votes were cast by passionate anglers desperately supporting their favourite fishing communities," said Shauna Gosevitz, Senior Director of Marketing for WFN. "We want people to once again get behind their towns, communities and cities and tell us which Canadian community is WFN's Ultimate Fishing Town Canada."

In 2010, WFN asked Canadians to name the best place to wet a line and representatives from 160 different communities nationwide stepped up to tell WFN why their town was Canada's best place to fish. After nearly one million votes were cast, Port Alberni, BC earned the title.

"WFN's Ultimate Fishing Town Canada search put Port Alberni on the map," said Bob Cole, Director of the Chamber of Commerce and a passionate angler. "Small but mighty, we are nationally known for our incredible year-round fishing opportunities and the publicity this honour generated has definitely resulted in an increase in tourism and awareness of Port Alberni."

WFN's Mariko Izumi will once again serve as the national spokesperson for the search by appearing in promotional spots, conducting a nationwide media tour and attending the grand prize event to award the trophy and cheque to the winning community and cause.

The promotion is being supported by a trio of sponsors including: Oak Bay Marine Group, owners and operators of several world-class BC fishing resorts; Spectacular Northwest Territories, offering vacation ideas in magnificent wilderness surroundings in the Northwest Territories; and prizing sponsor WaveSpin Reels, the only reel with a tangle-free guarantee.

In addition, seven cable operators (Access Communications, Cogeco Cable, EastLink, Rogers Cable, Shaw Cable, Source Cable and Westman Communications) will support the campaign by offering a free preview of WFN and/or WFN HD for the month of March, promoting the contest on their websites and running promotional spots on-air. Four affiliates will also award a cash prize to the town receiving the most votes in the areas they service. These include: Rogers Cable ($2,500), Shaw Cable ($2,000), EastLink ($1,000) and Cogeco Cable ($1,000). WFN will award an additional $1,000 prize to the town receiving the most votes that is not serviced by any of these affiliates.
