WFN Partners with UFC Fighter Mike Pyle
World Fishing Network is excited to announce its new marketing partnership with Mike ‘Quicksand’ Pyle, who offers this description of himself: “I’m a welterweight fighter with the UFC, actor, and I have a black belt in fly fishing.”
The 6’1” 170-pound native of Dresden, Tenn. fights in the UFC welterweight division, where he holds a 25-9-1 record in 35 career bouts. He is a former WEC welterweight champion and has also competed in Strikeforce, the Los Angeles Anacondas of the IFL, Elite XC, Affliction and M-1 Challenge. He is currently #15 in the official UFC welterweight rankings entering his matchup against T.J. Waldburger on Feb. 22 at UFC 170.
Pyle, 38, first began studying Taekwondo at age 17 and participated in his first sanctioned amateur MMA fight in 1999 against future UFC light heavyweight champion, Quinton Jackson. He became the WEC welterweight champion by defeating Bret Bergmark on Oct. 14, 2005 and would go on to successfully defend his WEC title against veteran MMA fighter Shonie Carter on Jan. 13, 2006. Pyle signed with UFC as a replacement for Chris Wilson, fighting Brock Larson at UFC 98, accepting the challenge on just one week notice.

Pyle, who trains and fights out of Las Vegas, Nev., grew up in a fishing family. “I’ve been fishing since I was old enough to hold a rod. One of my earliest memories is pulling in a 7- or 8-pound carp when I was 3 years old,” Pyle told Bassmaster Magazine.
“You gotta be honest – this is a violent sport. So I like to counterbalance fighting with fishing. I’ll take a couple of days off from training when my body’s hurting. I get away, relax, clear my mind. It’s nice to pit myself against a smaller animal that’s not trying to hurt me.”
When he’s not in The Octagon or on the water, Pyle can be found on the big screen, having played the role of Capt. Kevin Burke in the movie Universal Soldier: Regeneration (2009) starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren and fellow MMA fighter Andrei Arlovski. Pyle also played a small part in the 2012 blockbuster Men in Black III starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, and Safe (2012).
