There are a number of products on the market that allow you to customize your jerkbait. I have found that small gauge lead wire is likely the most versatile option. While it's harder to apply than say a suspend strip, I believe it allows you to better customize your jerkbait because of how much or little you can apply.
Simply take the lead wire and wrap it around the treble hook of your choice. Putting wire on the back treble will cause the bait to either suspend or sink nose up. Applying to the front treble will position the jerkbait nose down. The middle treble is more neutral.
Every jerkbait I've thrown runs a little bit differently than another out of the package. I commonly have to modify my jerkbaits with this hack to get them to do what I want. Give this one a try; I think you'll find it's worth the extra effort.
