TUC's 2010 Fall Splash Generates Nearly $100,000
Without question the 2010 Fall Splash, a joint fundraising event between Trout Unlimited Canada (TUC) and the Bow River chapter, battled the elements and came through in shining colors. The winter season's first significant snow fall smothered the Calgary region and resulted in a number of cancellations. Despite the reduced crowd over 200 people battled the elements to support coldwater conservation. Those in attendance were in a giving mood as the 2010 Fall Splash raised over $96,000, an 8% increase over 2009!
Attendees had numerous quality items to peak their interest including 25 live auction items, over 75 silent auction items and over 35 bucket raffle items. In addition to the diverse array raffle items dinner and auction attendees had the option of participating in the Decisions Raffle, the Winston Rod Raffle, Pick of the Pod Draw and the always popular Fish Pull Raffle. TUC Director of Special Events, Don Pike, once again lead the popular Heads and Tails coin toss entitled, "Sip, Sample or Indulge". This year's winner and nine of their friends would be taught hors d' oeuvres cooking and wine tasting by Calgary's Cookbook Company and Metrovino.
As part of Fall Splash tradition the Bow River chapter recognized the efforts of those who have made significant contributions to the work of the chapter and to the ongoing conservation efforts in the Bow River basin. Tim Hamilton was this year's recipient of the Bob Paget Memorial Conservation Award. The Bow River Habitat Award went to the City of Calgary's Wastewater Treatment and the Tom Wagler Volunteer Award went to John and Joyce Cozens.
The 2010 Fall Splash could not survive without the generous support and donations from companies, organizations and individuals who support of coldwater conservation. Their efforts are critical to ensuring clean fresh water for future generations.
A special thanks also goes out to the staff of the Coast Plaza who once again provided a wonderful meal. TUC and the Bow River Chapter express their gratitude to all who donated, attended and supported this year's Fall Splash.
