Tropical Storm Debby Forces Road Closures In Florida
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has issued an immediate closure to vehicular traffic on all roads within the FWC-managed portion of the Aucilla Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Jefferson and Taylor counties.
This temporary action is necessary due to hazardous conditions and road damage caused by intense flooding from Tropical Storm Debby. Signs have been posted at all access points to most of the area?s 50,475 acres.
However, this closure does not affect the two portions of the property that are managed by the Suwannee River Water Management District. The Goose Pasture area and the portion along the Aucilla River, east of Oneal Tram are still open to vehicles.
To ensure public safety and to protect the area?s road system from additional damage, the closure to the FWC-managed portion of the WMA will remain in effect and that area will not reopen until flood waters have subsided. The FWC will be issuing a future news release when this closure has been lifted.
