The Second Annual "I Wanna Fish Too"' Youth Event
The Second Annual “I Wanna Fish Too” Youth Event that was held near Nashville last weekend was a fun day for all involved. To see the face of a child when they catch their first fish is one of the most rewarding experiences an angler can have. The day was filled with laughter, music, fun, food and of course fish. The sponsors and the adults that volunteers and worked so hard to make the day happen did a wonderful job providing a memorable day for the children that participated. The kids received free gear and baits as well as food and refreshments.
Quinten Moore was the winner of the I.W.F.T. youth tournament, the grand prize included a trip to California to fish with Professional Angler Joe Everett. The Pond Pro Tim Shannon and Donna Bilbrey also provided Quinten with prizes from their sponsors for the top youth angler. The other children that placed in the rankings received trophies and prizes in their age group, as well as all children participating received goodie bags and baits made possible by donations and sponsors of the event. The volunteers and sponsors made the day possible for so many kids to have the opportunity to fish and take home gear needed to continue fishing in the future.
Two men in particular that worked hard to make the event happen were John Palmer (Founder) and Joey Frasca (Promotional Director) these two gentlemen put in a lot of hard work and much of their time before during and after the IWFT youth event for underprivileged children. Fishing needs more friends like these two men and the other volunteers who made the day possible for the kids
The entertainment for the day was provided by Ellie May Kay, country music artist and official spokesperson for "Pink Fishing". Ellie May and her band did a great job providing the songs and the music as well as making announcements for the event. Ellie May is a 2013 Independent Country Music Association Award Nominee who is working as hard for country music as she is for the National Breast Cancer Foundation through her work with Pink Fishing. During the event LBAA Tournament Angler, Donna Bilbrey and Ellie May became friends and hopefully fishing partners in the future. Ellie May’s song, “The Girl with a Fishing Rod”, has inspired many young girls to take up fishing, which is what Donna hopes to do as well in her career.
Professional anglers attended the event to support the kids and to lend a helping hand as well as give the kids a ride in a real bass boat. Mike Davis, Tim Shannon, Bill Hunter, Greg Sims, Larry Hoover, Thomas Duff, Hutt Hudson, Damien Kay, Donna Bilbrey and others not only enjoyed the day with the kids but made time to compete against one another after the youth tournament for fun and bragging rights. The Pro tournament was won by Jarmarcus D. Brewster with second place going to Donna Bilbrey.
