Fall turkey hunting seasons have opened, or are fixing to, in most of North America. Currently, 42 of the lower 48 states and even some Canadian provinces, participate in celebrating this time-honored tradition. For those outdoorsmen and women who haven't hunted and bagged one of these big birds, we've compiled a need to know list of helpful hunting tips that'll certainly put a turkey fan on your wall and some delicious meat on your table. Kicking off this week's thunder chicken tribute with an exclusive two-part interview, will be Hal Shaffer, host of Greg Zipadelli’s Drop Zone on Outdoor Channel. Hal will concentrate on locating and targeting a turkey's preferred food source, calling techniques and how he sets up for the kill. Then, Matt Lindler, Acting VP of Communications for NWTF, will fill us in on their "Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt." initiative, membership benefits and Mossy Oak's introduction of their Obsession camo line that benefits the wild turkey. Finally, Greg Randolph, VP of Marketing at DECKED in vehicle storage solutions, will aid us in solving the hunter’s greatest plight: lack of innovative vehicle storage for firearms, hunting gear, decoys and more. The Revolution with Jim & Trav and this week's Discussion of “The Flocks of Fall: Turkeys,” is presented by Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel, World Fishing Network and MyOutdoorTV.

The weather is changing and ushering in cooler temperatures and no one is happier about it than Hal Shaffer of Greg Zipadelli’s Drop Zone on Outdoor Channel. Tune in as Hal joins Jim and Trav and talks about taking advantage of this change in weather as he hunts Nebraska. Hal says while many hunters wait for the rut, they are missing out because right now deer are in their bachelor groups and actually still predictable. Hal is already on the board this season with a Kansas muzzleloader buck and says this is where trail cameras can be so beneficial to hunters. Cameras help hunters establish an idea of where the bachelor groups are, what time they are moving and how they react to changing weather patterns. Those cameras can also be helpful for fall turkey hunters, too. Hal tells Jim and Trav that a lot of fall turkeys are probably taken from deer stands, however if you’re out specifically targeting turkeys, knowing where they feed is crucial. Tune in as Hal talks turkey calling, archery equipment for fall toms, the difference in behavior from spring to fall and more.

While many hunters are immersed in big game hunting during the fall, turkey hunting often gets overlooked. However, autumn can be full of action with hens, in addition to toms, being legal almost everywhere fall hunting is allowed and much less pressure on these wary birds. Matt Lindler is the Acting VP of Communications for the National Wild Turkey Federation and he joins The Revolution this week to talk about bagging a fall bird. He’ll explain why he likes the 20-gauge for turkey hunting, the shot size he uses and the right camo pattern to match the season and to fool these attentive birds. He’ll also divulge his favorite fall turkey hunting state, New York, and how NWTF is on the ground working hard to bring back a declining population there. Finally, Matt will highlight the efforts of the NWTF to enhance habitat, open access to additional acres for public hunting and maybe most importantly, to recruit hunters to the sport. Hunters are vital in keeping this tradition alive and essential to the funding of conservation programs everywhere.

The onset of hunting seasons means an endless amount of hunting gear that will be stuffed in the cab and bed of your truck for the next few months. Outdoorsmen and women like to have their gear readily available so that when they get the chance, they can get outdoors. However, a cab full of gear can be frustrating as it takes up valuable space. It can be difficult to find things because it’s unorganized and when crammed together you run the risk of gear getting broken. Putting your gear in the truck bed isn’t a foolproof option either, because when unsecured, expensive gear can be stolen and it’s subjected to the weather. Greg Randolph, the VP of Marketing for DECKED joins The Revolution this week to showcase their engineered truck bed storage solutions to solve all these problems. DECKED creates truck bed tool boxes that are secure, ergonomic, and weatherproof. The system features drawers to organize your gear and tools, topped with a deck that has a true 2,000-pound payload for virtually anything you need to haul in your bed. Tune in for more, but you can also check them out at or at one of their dealers, like Cabela’s.
