The 34th Annual World Fishing & Outdoor Expo is Coming
Now is the time for anglers, hunters and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages to get ready for the upcoming season during the 34th annual World Fishing & Outdoor Exposition being held March 3-6, 2011, at the SUNY Rockland Community College Fieldhouse in Suffern, N.Y. For generations, sportsmen and women and their families and friends have made their way to the Expo where they can find hundreds of exhibitors - manufacturers, retailers, guides, travel lodges and much more - showcasing everything they need to "think Spring." The 2011 Expo is presented by Stihl.
"For 34 years, men and women who love the outdoors have made the World Fishing & Outdoor Exposition their number one destination to get ready for the upcoming season. Not only did they bring their children, they are now bringing their grandchildren and even great grandchildren" said Show Director Jonathan Sauers. "With the wide-range of activities we offer for adults and children alike with row after row of products, exhibits and activities, the Expo truly is an event that has something for everyone."
Presented by Shimano, fishing funnyman Dave Mercer, host of television's Facts of Fishing? and the popular Bassmaster Classic and Bassmaster Elite Series emcee, is one of the country's most sought-after seminar speakers. He'll have his audience rolling in the aisles while at the same time teaching then how to land more and bigger fish then they ever imagined.
Bass fishing, an honored pastime favorite for many attendees, is well represented during the Expo. Nationally recognized experts Shaw Grigsby, Zell Rowland and Danny Correia are instructors for the American Sportfishing Association's (ASA) Bass Academy sponsored by Boat US Angler, Plano and Humminbird. Gene "The Fishing Machine" Elllison will also be hosting and speaking during the Bass Academy. In 2008, Ellison was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Professional Anglers Association. The Bass Academy is a concentrated classroom program where anglers can learn how to gain the edge over their competition or how to simply catch more bass. The academy is scheduled to take place Friday, March 4, 1:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. The registration fee includes one Academy registration, course materials and one four-day pass to the Expo. Plus, the Hawg Trough - a 5,000 gallon tank loaded with monster largemouth bass - will be on display for pro anglers to demonstrate their lures.
Throughout the show, Mike Laptew, the "Diving Fisherman," will present a stunning and informative multi-media presentation which reveals the secrets of North American gamefish. Using the fastest DSLR camera in the world, Laptew has captured in spectacular high definition images of striped bass, bluefish, tautog, flounder and their prey. This is a "don't miss" for all Expo attendees.
Saturday, March 5, is Saltwater Superday, presented by Costa Del Mar. Saltwater fishing enthusiasts can listen to a continuous series of seminars conducted by the region's best saltwater anglers.
Captain Dave Chieffo, a seminar presenter, is one of the region's top authorities on saltwater downrigger fishing. His seminar, which is presented by Cannon Downriggers, provides information on how downriggers are not just for trolling, but are a valuable element of any serious angler's tackle box. Seminar attendees can register to win a Cannon Downrigger. In addition, the Expo features exclusive surf casting distance demonstrations with legends like "Crazy" Alberto Knie.
Sunday, March 6 - Family Fun Day - sponsored by Plano, is one of the expo's most popular features. Children 11 and under are free when accompanied by a paying adult. The first 200 children, 11 and under with a paying adult, will receive a Plano box free of charge. There is a scavenger hunt designed especially for children. Once the children have their checklists stamped, they can visit the Grand Prize Giveaway booth and receive a free prize, supplies are limited. The "Reel Kids" casting event, hosted by the New Jersey TBF Federation, Youth Chapter, will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is brining is ever-popular Velcro Fishing "pond." Children who land and indentify their "catch" will receive a prize. Plus the kids will want to visit the Lake Champlain International booth and meet Bobber Bob.
Sunday is also Whitetail Superday, which features a continuous series of seminars by some of America's greatest deer hunters such as the Deer City USA Team, New York's Pat and Tony Salerno and "The Deer Doctor" Peter Fiduccia. You don't want to miss Fiduccia's Sunday seminar where he will be giving away a valuable BowTech Sentinel FLX RH # 60 compound bow.
Wildlife lovers will definitely enjoy what's in store for them at the Expo. Back this year is Brody the Kodiak Brown Bear and his handler Jeff Watson. Brody is a 1,400 pound male Kodiak Brown Bear who has appeared in numerous television shows, commercials and advertisements. Brody and Watson travel throughout the nation educating the public about bears and backcountry safety. Also in attendance is grizzly bear expert and host of the National Geographic Channel's Expedition Grizzly,Casey Anderson, who raised and works with Brutus, a grizzly he saved as a baby. Something sure to delight the whole family isTalons! presented by master falconer Lorrie Schumacher. People will be able to get up close and personal with live falcons, hawks and owls as Schumacher explains the importance of conserving birds of prey.
