Texas Duo Victorious In Lake Fork Tournament

This past weekend Crappie USA held a qualifying event on Lake Fork near Sulphur Springs Texas. These anglers were competing for not only cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela?s Crappie USA Classic. This year's classic will be held October 24th-27th, 2012 on the Barkley/Kentucky Lakes at Cadiz, Kentucky.
Semi-Pro Division Results
Taking first place and $1,000 was the team of Sean Gossett and Brad Williams with a total weight of 10.52 pounds. The two caught 25 fish for the day on the north end of the lake in 12-15 feet of water vertical jigging Lake Fork Baby Shad in standing timber.
The team also received an additional $200 for winning the Driftmaster Bonus award.
Second place went to the Sherman, Texas team of Lane Carlisle and Rob Marshall, earning $600 for their 10.22-pound haul. The duo also caught 25 crappie on the day, fishing the northwest end of the lake by vertical jigging white/chartreuse and gray jigs in brush 17-20 feet deep.
Bobby Goforth and Shannon Sherbert took third with 7.69 pounds, earning $400. Goforth and Sherbert were vertical jigging 1/16 ounce jigs over brush in 18 feet of water to catch nearly 80 fish for the day.
Amateur Division Results
First place in the amateur division was the Lone Oak, Texas team of Roger and Pamela Putman with an impressive total weight of 12.43 pounds, earning $500 for their efforts. The Putmans were fishing the northwest end of the lake where they were vertical jigging minnows on jig heads in standing timber 4-17 feet deep to catch 30-40 fish for the day.
Second place and $300 went to Kenneth Whiteley and Mathew Cannella with a weight of 8.85 pounds. The team fished the south end of the lake vertical jigging brushpiles in 18-20 feet of water to catch 30-40 fish for the day.
Taking third place was Ben Hatchel and Daniel Barrick with 7.51 pounds, earning $200. Hatchel and Barrick were fishing the north end of the lake where they were vertical jigging standing timber in 12-15 feet of water using pearl and blue Lake Fork Baby Shad to catch 80-100 fish for the day.
Big Fish Award
Taking big fish of the event was the team of Sean Gossett of Emory, Texas and Brad Williams of Caddo Mills, Texas with a 2.18-pound crappie earning the team $91. Second place in the big fish contest was the team of Ben Hatchel of Caddo Mills, Texas and Daniel Barrick of Quilin, Texas with a 1.98-pound crappie earning the team $39.
