Spring is here.....

Well with the rivers and creeks in the area at high flow, it's time to target Trout!. I have tried my hand at Trout before with no success in the past. This year I am determined to catch a Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, and a Lake Trout. Yesterday on my way home from The Spring Classic sale at Bass Pro Shops (still on until the 27th), my wife noticed a creek flowing towards Lake Ontario. I jumped off at the next exit and followed the winding creek to the lake. I found a quiet little spot with two anglers walking towards the water, which told me by their fly gear there are trout. I tried a few casts before packing up as I was not confident I had the right gear. Today I returned to the spot with all the right gear and gave it another go. I found a nice transition area where the fast flow met a slower flow and began casting. My second cast the float disappears, I set and FISH ON!!..... I got the fish about 2 feet from the bank before it got loose. Now I'm really pumped. Several more casts and hours later another hit, the fish ripped apart my roe sack and got away. I had one more fish do the same after that, then after casting I notice a dawnlike on my reel and start to strip it off to fix it.... all the while my float was heading downstream. I looked up at my float just in time to see it go under with force. I reeled and reeled to get back the slack line I had created by trying to fix my line, then I feel the weight and set hard. I could not believe the power of this fish, it reminded me of fall Chinook at the Ganaraska river. After several runs up and down stream I finally got it to shore. An absolutely beautiful Rainbow Trout measuring 29" in length and 14.5 in girth. I was speechless and darn near breathless staring in awe at this magnificent creature I had just done battle with. This was my first ever Rainbow trout and you can bet it won't be my last!, now on to the Browns for a few days pier casting.
