Southeast Florida ? Week 1 Report ? July 2012

Offshore on the troll, dorado into the 30 pound range were in 400-800 feet, with some occasional smallies in close. Skirted/bare ballyhoo and live pilchards produced good results around weed lines and floating debris. Kingfish were spread across the ranges from in close to 350 feet, along with Blackfin Tuna.  Wahoo were biting between 150-700 feet with best results being around current changes and temperature breaks. The daytime deep drop and darkside swordfish bite has been consistent.

On the reefs and wrecks, yellowtail and mutton snapper, cobia, BFT, bonito, barracuda, sailfish, kingfish cero and Spanish mackerel and sharks were in 70-200 feet.

Near shore, along the beaches, piers, inlets and Intracoastal Waterway, bluefish , kingfish, Spanish mackerel, blue runners, jacks, pompano, snappers, bonito and barracudas. Cut baits, live shrimp, mullet, sardines, pilchards and jigs produced well on the piers. Tarpon and snook were in the inlets and around docks and bridges. Fishing live shrimp, cut shrimp, crabs mullet and jigs in the early morning produced good results. Remember snook are catch and release only until the season re-opens September 1.
In freshwater, the morning bass bite was best in the canals and lakes. Artificial top water, jerk baits, spinner baits, and flies along the grass lines worked well for largemouths and peacocks in the canals.
