The Miller High Life® Professional Tarpon Tournament Series (PTTS)
presented by Yamaha, one of the world?s largest and richest live-release tarpon
fishing tournaments, is honoring United States veterans and wounded warriors with a Memorial Day Weekend Celebration.?From its inception, the PTTS has always been supportive of America?s Armed Forces, veterans, and wounded warriors,? said Joe Mercurio, Vice President and General Manager of the Tarpon Anglers Club. ? We are so pleased to be able to honor those who protect our freedom with this special event.?As in years past, and with the help of the Wounded Warrior Project, Gasparilla Island State Park, Rotunda West Veterans Honor Guard, and the SWFL Sky Dive Club, the PTTS will honor United States veterans and wounded warriors with a Memorial Day Weekend Celebration during it?s Pro series event on Sunday, May 27. Eight wounded warriors will ride as honorary team members on competing boats during the WPTTS and PTTS Memorial Weekend Events. Following the WPTTS event on Saturday, the warriors will fish with their WPTTS teams and experience Tarpon fishing in Boca Grande.In addition, the PTTS will hold a moment of silence in honor of U.S. veterans and fallen soldiers before the Pro Series event during the presentation of the colors by the Rotunda West Veterans Honor Guard on Sunday, May 27. Following the presentation of the colors, Roy Torgeirson, Bruce Gifford, Zak Stone, and Anne-Laure Touron, members of the SWFL Sky Dive Club based at Shell Creek Airport in Punta Gorda, will jump from a plane over Boca Grande Pass displaying the American Flag, and will soar down and land on the South Beach of Gasparilla Island State Park.The public is encouraged to attend the festivities on Saturday and Sunday. The WPTTS and PTTS fishing events begin at 7:00 AM. The Memorial celebration will begin at 6:45am on Sunday, May 27th.
