PRODUCT REVIEW - BERKLEY HAVOC, CRAW FATTY
The Berkley Havoc Craw Fatty, Bobby Lane Design. Watermelon Candy.
A Split Shot rig with a XPS Magna Superlock Worm Hook, 3/0 and a split shot.
When I first received these baits I was a little skeptical on the body design, I thought there should maybe be a little more bulk to the body, other than that I thought the bait looked good.
I spent three days trying the Craw Fatty, I don't think you can judge a bait in one outing, just my opinion.
Opening day for Bass was my first test run with this bait.
My first cast of the day.
That was the first time I tried the Craw Fatty, I was thinking maybe the body design is just right.
It's always nice when you land a fish on your first cast, I automatically felt confident with this bait. Confidence can go along way.
In the picture above is my next fish on the Craw Fatty. If you look at this fish and the first one you will notice an almost identical hook set. The hook set was good, it was through the roof of the mouth. That tells me the fish is going after the bait with the intentions of destroying it, it's not just nibbling or picking away at the bait.
The video below shows the under water presentation.
I couldn't get the full effect because it was in the bath tub and the water wasn't deep enough. You can get an idea of how this bait works. I like the way the claws flutter on the down fall.
The Craw Fatty works great on drop offs. Jigging around the edges provokes the fish.
In the above video I was just dragging the Craw Fatty along the bottom. There was no cover or weeds, I was just dragging it over a mud bottom and the Bass hit it.
One thing I really enjoy with creature baits is working Beaver huts. Check out the video below.
Dropping the Craw Fatty in small openings around the Beaver Huts will draw the Bass out and it won't be long before the Bass slams it.
Beaver hut Bass on the Craw Fatty
The video above is another Bass out of a Beaver hut. You can see the difficulties that come with Beaver hut fishing, lots of snags, but it's worth the Bass.
After testing this bait out for a few outings I no longer have any skepticism. The Craw Fatty is an excellent bait and it's extremely durable. I lost one in a Beaver Hut snag and I still have seven of the eight baits left. This could be the creature bait of the season. I caught a lot of Bass and I lost a few fishing in heavy cover. The Berkley Havoc Craw Fatty is now part of my regular arsenal and I would highly recommend it to any angler.
Go get it!!!!
