PowerTeam Lures is a new company that got a lot of attention at this year's ICAST. The bait that most people were interested in was the Texas-Rig Jig. The idea behind it is to have a bait that looks and acts like a jig, but is able to work through thick weeds like a Texas rigged soft plastic.

Construction 5/5

The baits are extremely durable and last for a long time. My clients and I were able to catch multiple fish on each bait.

Blue iridescence that flashes when moved.

Appearance 5/5

The colors are fantastic. My favorite color from the collection was green pumpkin with light blue swirl. The blur swirl is added to the bait in such a way that it creates a realistic blue iridescence. Every time you jig or shake the bait it gives a blue flash of color. It is just an awesome color combination!

Usage/Effectiveness 5/5

The baits are compact and have an excellent weight for pitching and flipping with accuracy. The skirt on the front is made from the same dense plastic as the rest of the bait, and it doesn't create much drag.

The bait is easy to rig. Just be sure to Texas rig it with the right sized hook and weight for the given situation. I had success flipping it to submerged timber, docks, and thick weeds. It's easy to use, and only requires some basic flipping and pitching experience in order to use.

The Texas-Rig Jig is unbelievably effective. I had five bags and went through most of them in one day. I found myself searching through the boat on other outings looking for the old ripped bodies to melt back together. Yes, they were that good!

The molded skirt makes this bait look and act like a jig.

Innovation 5/5

In my opinion, this is one the most innovative creature baits on the market in a long time. The bait slowly spins on a free fall unlike any other pitching/flipping bait on the market. It is basically a soft plastic one piece flipping jig - why hasn't this come out sooner? The green pumpkin and blue swirl is unreal. The bait also has a tapered neck designed for punching heavy cover, with what is basically a punch-skirt built right into it. It is a soft flipping jig that can punch through weeds cleanly and go where no jig has gone before. It is great at not snagging up in wood as well.

Price 3/5

It is a little expensive for only 6 baits, but you are getting a great product. It is similar to the pricing of other quality soft plastics, however they are very durable.

The Texas-Rig Jig is a simple yet effective bait. It merges the two most commonly used flipping and pitching baits into one well polished and efficient heavy cover fish magnet. This bait has already become a "must have" for my tackle box. Being a new company, PowerTeam Lures is still working on distribution, but you can order the baits online at PowerTeamLures.com.
