Nomad's Harvester VX3 garments provide a not-too-bulky fit that maximizes maneuverability.

My buddy was impressed. He was admiring some plains mule deer bucks I'd harvested with my bow over the years. His jaw dropped further when he learned that I hadn't hunted mule deer in my home state of Colorado since 2014.

"I don't get it," he said. "This is one of the mule deer meccas, and you don't hunt them anymore."

I just smiled and shook my head. As it turns out, my little rural slice of heaven isn't only a mule deer mecca, it's a whitetail one, too. Make no mistake, Odocoileus virginianus has entirely stolen my heart.

For this reason, I tour the country from September through December hunting white-tailed deer. I'm fortunate to test lots of new gear.

This is a blessing and a curse. It's a blessing when gear performs as advertised, but a curse when it fails. Though fewer gear failures occur these days, they still do. Then, there is the par gear. It does what it does, but what it does doesn't light my hair on fire. Then there's gear like Nomad's Harvester VX3 Jacket and VX3 Pants—gear that performs precisely as it's advertised to and meets and exceeds expectations.

Let's dive in!

FIRST IMPRESSION; HARVESTER VX3 JACKET

Nomad sent my Harvester VX3 Jacket in Mossy Oak's New Break-Up, but this mid-season jacket is also available in Mossy Oak's famous Bottomland. The jacket retails for $160, an excellent price for a coat of this caliber.

My first notice was how soft and light the jacket was. The Sherpa fleece-lined interior feels like your favorite blanket on a cool winter morning. The Sherpa fleece boosts warmth while adding comfort, two critical components for any mid-season whitetail garment.

The jacket's exterior is Nomad's all-new soft, silent outer-shell fabric. First, I ran my fingers over the jacket's exterior. No noise! Then, I took the brush I use on my black lab and ran it over the outside fabric. There was no noise, and the rubber-tipped metal bristles didn't snag or pull the fabric.

Nomad notes that the jacket features a windproof lining to keep Mother Nature's chill out, and DWR protection to keep you dry in light rain. Spoiler alert: I wore the jacket and Harvester 3X Pants in Oklahoma in mid-October. For three hours, the western Oklahoma sky turned soupy, and light rain fell. My base layers weren't wet, and I never got cold. A northeast wind howled at 20 miles per hour, and both garments kept it out, a critical feature of any worthy piece of whitetail gear.

The hood doesn't have a sloppy fit. Pull it over your hat, and it holds tight without being constrictive, and the Sherpa fleece feels great on the ears. When the snag-free front zipper is pulled all the way up, the collar comes up under the chin, just below the bottom lip, for increased heat retention. I appreciate that Nomad, with all the jacket's zippers, added rubber pull tabs. These tabs make zipping and unzipping easy.

I like the chest pocket over the heart. It's ideal for your phone, rangefinder, wind checker, etc., and the dual hand pockets are deep and Sherpa-lined.

Other notable features of the jacket include four-way stretch fabric to boost mobility, and I appreciate how tight yet flexible the nylon-banded cuffs are. As with all things Harvester VX3, the jacket's bottom has zero slop. It hugs the waist and upper hips without being restrictive. The jacket also has an integrated safety harness slot in the back.

NOMAD HARVESTER VX3 PANTS

The Harvester VX3 Pants mirror the VX3 Jacket's build, making them a killer combo. With the pants and jacket on, I squatted, did lunges and moved about, trying to find areas of restriction. I found none. The pants feature the same Sherpa-lined fleece interior and church-mouse-quiet, yet ultra-durable, outer fabric. I appreciate the belt loops, and I'm a fan of the rubberized inside waistband. This helps keep the pants suited and promotes a solid fit.

The button-closure front pockets are broad and deep, which I appreciate. Whitetail pants without thigh pockets are worthless to me. I also like the warm zippered side pockets and the dual side open pockets.

The dual-sided open pockets are long and excellent for your grunt tube, phone, stand straps, etc. In fact, I stuffed a phone charger in my left long-side pocket and ran a cord to my iPhone, which I placed in my left-side, side-zippered pocket. The VX3 Pants also have zippered back pockets and two vent openings directly below the second belt loops on the right and left sides of the pants.

Leg zippers that run halfway up the pants are ideal for putting the pants on over your boots, but the pants' bottoms aren't so baggy that they won't fit inside your rubber boots if you want to go that route.

NOMAD HARVESTER VX3 BEANIE AND GAITER

I'm a big beanie guy, but I rarely wear one in October. While the Harvester VX3 Beanie came as part of my Nomad Harvester Collection, it proved too warm for my early and mid-October bow hunts.

Is this bad news? Not at all! Nomad made the VX3 Beanie as a mid-season cold-weather garment, and, like the VX3 Jacket and Pants, this Sherpa-fleece-lined beanie will keep you toasty warm well into the late seasons. It pairs well with the VX3 Neck Gaiter to provide ultimate warmth where you lose it most: your head and neck. I'm excited to use these uber-quiet items more in the coming months.

FIELD TEST

On October 16, 2025, I did a hang-and-hunt in western Oklahoma. The goal was a whitetail doe. I dressed in the field, as our wind was marginal.

I put on Nomad's Harvester VX3 Jacket & Pants over my base layers and walked the half mile to the tree I'd selected. Usually, I wouldn't have worn the jacket, but I wanted to test the VX3's breathability. Of all the things I love about the Harvester VX3 series, breathability, especially with the coat, is limited.

Again, is this a bad thing? No! It's a mid-season garment and meant to retain warmth and not let it out. However, when I do field tests, I test as many things as possible, so you know exactly what to expect when you make your purchase and take an item I've reviewed into the field. The fabric moves so well with the body, and this is one of the quietest whitetail jacket/pant combos I've ever worn.

Rain hit western Oklahoma hard this spring/summer, and the amount of dried, sticky vegetation, including sand burrs, is everywhere. One problem with a super soft, ultra-quiet outer-shell fabric is that it tends to pick up a lot of desiccated vegetation. Nomad's fabric didn't. Aside from the sand burrs, which there is no getting around, I was pleased with how little dried grasses, leaves and other debris clung to the VX3's outer fabric.

Another big win of the Harvester VX3 garments is the maneuverability they provide. I had zero trouble with my hang-and-hunt mission. The knees, elbows, etc. of both garments allow flexibility without slop, and when I bent my limbs back on an Oklahoma doe, I didn't feel restricted.

It was likely too warm an evening to thoroughly test the VX3's temperature rating. In fact, in the middle of my sit, I had to remove the jacket, which is excellent news for its ability to trap heat and keep the core warm. I very much look forward to wearing the VX3 garments during cold fronts in November.

Final Thoughts

Nomad knows what whitetail hunters want. It's evident from the design of the Harvester VX3 garments that Nomad put a premium on comfort, quietness and flexibility without slop. I will be adding the Harvester VX3 garments to my whitetail clothing arsenal, and I look forward to thoroughly testing the VX3 Beanie and Neck Gaiter.
