New Expandable Blade Broadheads for 2021

11 broadheads new to the expandable-blade market this year — ATA Show.

New Expandable Blade Broadheads for 2021

With the 2021 ATA Trade Show being forced into the cyberworld due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, you might think that some parts of the bowhunting industry would be pulling back.

But as a look at all of the new products being brought out at this week’s Archery Trade Association virtual event prove, that’s simply not the case. On the heels of a good business year in 2020 as virus-weary bowhunters bought new gear, got their licenses, and headed afield in surprisingly big numbers, there’s tons of innovative new products being brought to market in this New Year.

That certainly includes the ever-expanding mechanical broadhead market as plenty of new hybrid and mechanical blade designs are brought out for 2021. Most all of them feature ongoing industry innovation, precision manufacturing and the in-the-field ability to bring down a big buck or bull.

Here’s a look at some of what’s new this year in the expandable-blade market:

Dead Ringer Hatchet

ATA-Mech-Broadheads
Dead Ringer Hatchet

With the precision of a surgical scalpel, the new Dead Ringer Hatchet is a rear-deploying 2-blade expandable broadhead that checks in at 100-grains and features a sizable 2-inch cutting diameter to leave blood trails that end in a downed big game animal and a trip to the meat processor’s shop. Thanks to the .033-inch thick blades, which are held in place through arrow flight by a plastic collar, these broadheads use a small bleeder blade that deploys the bigger blades when the arrow hits home in a buck or bull's 10-ring. The end result is a deadly bow shot, easy to follow blood trails, and a lot of smiles after taking the buck or bull of a lifetime.

Innerloc Devastation

Innerloc Devastation

Regardless of your bowhunting needs, the new Innerloc Devastation broadhead is designed to deliver big-time big-game results. Using a 2-inch cutting diameter built upon the broadheads three .040-inch thick blades, this broadhead comes in 100- and 150-grain offerings. Available with DBC insert replacements and the broadhead maker’s Clip Loc, which secures the broadhead blades and stops any opportunity for pre-impact deployment, these broadheads fly straight and bring the hammer home on the business end of a bow shot.

New Archery Products DK4

ATA-Mech-Broadheads
New Archery Products DK4

Fans of NAP broadheads can rejoice, thanks to this new 125-grain DK4 offering in the 2021 lineup. Building on the company’s well-known broadheads that deliver excellent penetration upon impact and massive wound channels upon exit, the new DK4 delivers a hybrid-blade package that uses fixed 1 ¾-inch diameter main blades and a 1 1/8-inch diameter front deploying expandable blade setup to turn this into a can’t-miss performer in the field. With the expandable blades held in place by the Spitfire Spring Clip Technology instead of O-rings or a collar, the broadhead keeps blades in place until impact. Once the broadhead hits home, the main blades, the expandable blades, and the sharp point all penetrate through thick big game hide and bone, pushing quickly through the boiler room and bringing easy-to-follow blood trails in the woods.

Rage Hypodermic Trypan NC

ATA-Mech-Broadheads
Rage Hypodermic Trypan NC

There's already much to like about the Rage Hypodermic Trypan expandable broadhead. From the 2-inch cutting diameter to the .039-inch thick blades to the scalpel-sharp cutting ability to the Hybrid Tip on the titanium ferrule, this Rage broadhead has won plenty of fans since its introduction. Thanks to its durability and swept-back blade design, the hard-hitting broadheads and easy-to-follow blood trails suggested that there was little room for improvement in this broadhead design from Rage. Until engineers eliminated the Shock Collar, that is, giving the broadhead even better performance with the new "No Collar" technology that makes sure the blades are closed throughout flight, thanks to the elimination of the plastic blade grabber. The end result? Devastating hits on a buck or bull's vitals and lots of venison for the freezer.

Ramcat Hydroshock-X Pivoting Blade Broadheads

ATA-Mech-Broadheads
Ramcat Hydroshock-X Pivoting Blade Broadheads

As Ramcat expands its product line this year and includes broadheads aimed at the crossbow market, the new Hydroshock-X Pivoting Blade is a winner and then some. Flying with field point accuracy, the 100-grain blade design comes with a 1 3/8-inch cutting diameter while the beefier 125-grain model comes with a 1 1/2-inch cutting diameter, both more than enough to get the job done downrange. With the Cage Ripper Expandable Blades and the broadhead’s piston-driven deployment system, these blades are locked into place at impact thanks to Ramcat's built-in plunger system.

Ramcat Diamondback Hybrid

ATA-Mech-Broadheads
Ramcat Diamondback Hybrid

Another quality design from the Covington, Ga.-based company in 2021, the Ramcat Diamondback Hybrid is a broadhead design that delivers a 7/8-inch cut from the fixed blades and a 2-inch cut from the mechanical blades. This single-bevel hybrid design flies true, thanks to the airfoil scoop feature and the Diamondback's O-Ring system, which keeps the broadhead flying tight and secure until impact. And after that impact happens in the blink of an eye, you'll want to have your hunting knife handy...it will then be time to roll up your sleeves and go to work.

SEVR Broadheads Titanium 2.0

ATA-Mech-Broadheads
SEVR Broadheads Titanium 2.0

If you're a fan of SEVR broadheads, then you're going to like this new broadhead for 2021. The Titanium 2.0 features a more swept-back blade angle, a redesigned deployment arm, and just slightly less cutting diameter. Wait a minute, less cutting diameter? That's right, but it's a win-win design, only going down from 2.1-inches to 2-inches, an engineering move that gives the Ti 2.0 up to 15 percent more hard hitting penetration. And once that blade gets there and does its deadly boiler room work on a big game animal, the end result is a notched tag, a filled freezer, and a new set of antlers for the wall. Add in the Practice Mode feature—simply adjust a small setscrew--and the ability to replace all Ti 2.1 ferrules with the new Ti 2.0 replacement blades and the guess here is that these broadheads will soon be flying off the shelves.

Bloodsport Nitefall

ATA-Mech-Broadheads
Bloodsport Nitefall

If you're after the record-book buck of a lifetime, it's light's out when Bloodsport's new Nitefall broadhead hits the boiler room. Like other hybrid-style broadheads on the market, the Nitefall starts with a bone-shattering, chisel-tip 7075 aluminum ferrule that helps get things going on impact. Add in two triangular 420 stainless steel fixed blades and the 2-inch cutting diameter rear-deploying expandable blades and the wound channel that results is devastating on a big-game animal downrange. Thanks to its design, the Nitefall doesn't utilize O-rings or clips to stay in place during flight and once deployed, the blades stay locked in place to ensure a downed buck or bull and an easy to follow blood trail.

SEVR Broadheads Robusto 2.0 Crossbow Broadhead

ATA-Mech-Broadheads
SEVR Broadheads Robusto 2.0 Crossbow Broadhead

A crossbow design, the new Robusto Broadhead from SEVR starts with the company's chiseled point to deliver a punishing impact at the end of a shot. That's when SEVR’s patented rear-deploy locking-pivoting blade technology takes over and uses the broadhead’s overall strength and higher FOC (front-of-center) to blast through a buck or bull's vital zone with 150-grains and a 2-inch cutting diameter courtesy of the Max-Cut 2.0 blade technology. Add in the design’s Practice Lock Practice Mode feature, which uses a small set screw to securely lock the blades in place, and these blades can be used over and over in pre-hunt practice sessions or on the range after arriving in camp to make sure everything is still zeroed in on the 10-ring.

Veteran Innovative Products Combat Veteran Broadhead

ATA-Mech-Broadheads
Veteran Innovative Products Combat Veteran Broadhead

A great offering from Veteran Innovative Products, this new Combat Veteran Broadhead is a hard-hitting, blood-trail producing hybrid that combines the best attributes of mechanical heads and fixed-blade broadhead design. Using Momentum Management Technology, the Combat Veteran Broadhead brings a 1.25-inch by 2-inch cutting diameter upon impact. Thanks to great penetration and big wound channels opened up, this four-blade design flies straight through the air, hits hard downrange, and delivers a downed buck or bull at the end of a shot. And when it’s all said and done, what more could you want from a broadhead?

MSRP $50 | veteranip.com

CenterPoint DeadPoint Broadhead

A new expandable for 2021 as CenterPoint Archery moves into the broadhead market, the CenterPoint DeadPoint is engineered to bring deadly in-the-field results for crossbow hunters waiting on the buck or bull of a lifetime to appear in the woods, the desert, or on a mountainside. Using a 6061 T6 aluminum ferrule, the new design has two .035-inch thick stainless steel blades that open upon impact and produce a devastating wound channel, thanks to the 2-inch cutting diameter. Coming in 100-grain models, these crossbow broadheads bring accurate flight and a big wallop at impact, enough to cause you to reach for your hunting pack as you get ready to notch another tag.
