Spring break 2011 will long be remembered as special by Chris McCaskill, 18, of Lewisville.

About noon March 15 McCaskill was fishing in TFFC?s 1.5-acre casting pond when he caught a 10.72-pound largemouth bass, a new water body record. McCaskill was targeting blue and channel catfish or rainbow trout with a night crawler when the big bass bit.

While that is a big fish for a little pond, it would be a mere snack for the record blue catfish caught from the pond, a 37.9-pound monster. The previous Lake Zebco record largemouth bass was caught in April 2010 by Colton Seeton and weighed 10.17 pounds. Since bass fishing in Lake Zebco is catch-and-release only, it is possible Seeton and McCaskill caught the same fish.

McCaskill is the son of Chris and Jeannette McCaskill of Lewisville.

Fishing at TFFC is available Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. No fishing license is needed, and all bait and tackle are furnished. Fishing is free with paid admission, and visitors may harvest up to five rainbow trout at no charge as long as the fish are available, probably until early May.
