Marina March Madness Continues
Eleven Mile State Park will host the last event of the Colorado Classic Ice Fishing Tournament ice fishing series, the "Marina March Madness," on March 5. All three tournaments are presented by the Sports Column and produced by the 11 Mile Marina. Marina March Madness is a unique and fun contest, held in a designated area at the North Shore with five separate one hour contests paying cash for first fish, and first, second and third place by weight for any species.
As part of March Madness, a basketball court will be set up on the ice near the Marina. Try your skill at free throws and three-point shots for additional cash and prizes. The second of three ice fishing tournaments in the Colorado Classic Ice Fishing Tournament Series was held on Feb. 5th at Eleven Mile State Park. The "South Park Ice Masters," as this particular tournament is called, was a "Trout-Only" team event. The 109 two-angler teams competed for thousands of dollars with the goal of having the heaviest total weight for two fish. There was also the optional Big Fish Pot which pays 100% of the money paid in by participating teams. This year?s pot was worth $1,240.
Danny Aldez and Kelvin Martinez of Leadville won with a total weight of 7.515 pounds and landed a qualified big fish of the day with a rainbow trout, weighing in at 4.730 pounds, for a total cash prize of $2,460. Ford Williams and Perry Aphelbeck of Silverthorne came in a close second at 7.050 pounds total weight for a payday of $1,016. Twenty-two teams won cash prizes.
