As hunters, we don’t ask a lot of our binoculars, especially compared to other pieces of gear we carry. All we expect of a bino is for it to give us a clear, magnified picture of something that is far away. A lot of us aren’t looking for a bunch of bells and whistles with our binos. However, as with most modern hunting gear, an increase in features and capabilities has been the trend in binocular design in recent years (which always seems to come with an increase in price).
Leupold’s BX-4 Pro Guide HD Gen 2 bino , available in four configurations, bucks this trend by providing a simple yet effective observational tool that checks all the most essential boxes at a reasonable price. Are there better binos out there? Sure. Are there less expensive ones? Of course. But few, if any, marry quality and affordability like the Leupold BX-4 Pro Guide HD Gen 2.
GET A GRIP: Combining an updated tacky rubber armor, thumb detents and a comfortable open-bridge design that allows the user to really tuck into the barrels, this bino has the ergonomics dialed in.PICTURE THIS: The high-definition glass offers outstanding resolution and clarity for the price point, while Leupold’s Elite Optical System enables excellent light transmission at dawn and dusk and outstanding glare reduction in harsh light.SPIN TO WIN: The focus wheel moves freely and easily with no slop or squishiness, allowing the user to shift focus from near to far and back again with a few quick revolutions and delightfully effortless precision.MOUNT UP: Remove the cap at the front end of the hinge and the bino is ready to be mounted to a tripod adapter, allowing for careful, hands-free parsing of complex terrain.THE EYES HAVE IT: Three sets of eye cups are included—low, medium and winged—allowing the user to choose the one that fits his or her eyes best, or easily swap them over the course of the day as conditions dictate. The five-position adjustment is crisp, with no wiggle between stops.QUALITY CONTROL: The exterior lenses feature scratch- and smudge-resistant coatings, meaning they’ll prove rugged and reliable in harsh conditions and demanding terrain.ACCESSORIZE: In addition to the extra sets of eyecups, a chest harness, flip-down objective lens covers and a one-piece ocular lens cover are included. This article was featured in the November 2025 issue of Game & Fish magazine.
