Lake Oconee Ready for Walmart BFL
The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Oconee June 11 for the fourth of five fishing tournaments in the Bulldog Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be fishing for top awards up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.
"It's going to be blistering hot," said FLW Tour pro Troy Morrow of Toccoa, Ga. "Oconee has lots of fixed docks, so fishing boat docks will be one of the main patterns. Also, there will probably be a pretty good morning seawall bite. Guys will be pitching dark-colored trick worms and using large plastic worms as well as topwater baits like buzzbaits or Flukes around the seawalls in the mornings.
"I wouldn't expect high weights in this one," Morrow added. "Probably 14 or 15 pounds will win it."
Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Sugar Creek Marina located at 353 Parks Mill Rd. in Buckhead, Ga. Takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing - the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
