Kerr Lake Set to Host Walmart BFL
The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Kerr Lake June 4 for the third of five stops in the Shenandoah Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.
"The water is still a little high on the lake," said Duracell/Gillette pro Jacob Powroznik of Prince George, Va. "There will be some fish shallow but the majority of fish will be caught near off-shore points in about 8 to 12 feet of water. This tournament could be a shad bite deal too. Anglers should key in on the shad the first hour of the morning and if they get lucky could win the tournament in 10 minutes.
"Otherwise anglers should look for schooling fish and key in on those bass," Powroznik went on to say. "The biggest challenge is going to be finding that big lunker. The lake is full of 2- to 2 ½ - pounders, but to win they are going to have to bring a 4-, 5- or 6-pounder to the scales because it is going to take about 16 to 18 pounds to win. Spooks, Pop-R and flukes should all be in the tackle box."
Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Satterwhite Point Recreation Area located at 6254 Satterwhite Point Road in Henderson. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The Kerr Lake BFL tournament is being hosted by the Vance County Department of Tourism.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing - the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
