The J Hooked team captured three dolphin whose aggregate weight totaled 80.4 pounds to win first place and more than $12,000 in the 10th annual Yamaha Dolphin Masters Invitational that took place May 28.

The winning team consisted of boat owner and captain Jaeme Adams of Chicago and Key West, his wife Katie Adams, and Key West anglers Dan Smith, Blair Stone, Mike Turner and Nick Norman.

Fishing the tournament for the first time, the J Hooked team took the championship with dolphin weighing 32.5 pounds, 29.6 pounds and 18.3 pounds.

?We happened to run across a weed line at about 380 feet of water, and that?s when we caught our two big fish,? said Jaeme Adams.

After the largest dolphin ate a pitched ballyhoo, landing it required stamina and patience.

?We fought that fish for a good 45 minutes,? Adams said. ?We caught it on a spinning rod, so we had to take a little more time.?

Second-place honors went to the Reel Conch team of Key West, consisting of angling veterans Randy Sterling Sr., Randy Sterling Jr. and Shane Curry. The trio logged in three weight fish that totaled 58.2 pounds.

The third-place finisher was the Raiser?s Edge team, with three fish totaling 55.6 pounds. The team consisted of David Raisbeck and Tracey Walters of Sanibel, Fla., guided by Captain Rob Nevius and assisted by mate Damian Neyrey, both of Key West.

The tournament drew 105 participants fishing on 23 boats.
