Featured Guests: Jim Shockey, Brian "Pigman" Quaca
With rapidly growing populations of feral hogs in more than thirty states and lenient regulations, this non-native omnivore is quickly becoming a popular game animal for hunters to pursue. So, this week on The Revolution with Jim and Trav presented by Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel, World Fishing Network and MyOutdoorTV, we're going Hog Wild with savvy hunting tips that'll help you bring home the bacon. Key talking points include: selecting the right weapon - rifle, air rifle, bow or knife. Picking quality hog hunting ammunition, shot placement, disease concerns and more. Joining us will be legendary outdoorsman Jim Shockey of UNCHARTED and Jim Shockey’s Hunting Adventures, and Brian "Pigman" Quaca from Pigman: The Series.
Jim Shockey is an icon in the outdoor industry and the host of Jim Shockey’s Hunting Adventures and Jim Shockey’s UNCHARTED seen on Outdoor Channel. He has traveled the world, hunted in more than 45 countries, taken more than 350 species, inked 88 world records for SCI and over 400 total record book entries. His list of hunting credentials seems endless and truly is remarkable.
The legend himself, Jim Shockey, joins Jim and Trav on The Revolution as they talk hog hunting. Jim is no stranger to hog hunting and has taken them with a variety of different weapons. He will talk about his Texas air rifle hunt where he took a 200-pound wild boar using a Benjamin Rogue .357 air rifle. “The accomplishment is directly proportional to the challenge. And hunting a big hog with an air gun is a great challenge,” says Jim. He stresses the importance of shot placement when using an air rifle and says neck or brain shots are ideal. In addition, he’ll discuss using an airbow to pursue your quarry and says that both options are incredibly effective. Jim will then talk harvesting hogs abroad like the 450-pound European wild boar he hunted in the South of France with a bow, or Argentina hog hunting with knives. Tune in for more.
Pigman: He is a precision marksman, prolific hog hunter, has a personality that is larger than life, a moniker that is enviable and a passion for hunting that is second to none. Brian “Pigman” Quaca is a native Texan who grew up at ground zero of the feral hog explosion. His quest to find more efficient and accurate ways of controlling the pig population led him to become a riflesmith, a guide and eventually a television personality and the host of his own show, Pigman: The Series on Sportsman Channel.
Tune in as Pigman discusses effective tactics for harvesting hogs and how to beat their senses. He’ll hand out his method for drawing in wary hogs with sour bait. He’ll also talk hog hunting gear and what he looks for in a broadhead, mechanical or fixed blades and the reason it’s so important to take the time to tune your bow. “If you can deliver the arrow and a sharp broadhead to its mark, that’s half the battle already won.” Pigman also talks shot placement on pigs and explains why the location of their vitals requires you to make a well-placed shot. If you’re more of a gun hunter, Pigman will talk calibers, scopes and his favorite hog hunting ammo from Hornady. Finally, he dives into the art of helicopter hunting, the level of difficulty involved, explains how to hit hogs on the run and talks about shooting hogs with a bow from a helicopter. Tune in for this fun and informational discussion with Pigman.
