From Early- to Late-Season Deer Hunting, Call Versatility a Key to Success

Calls bucks respond to early in the season aren't the same as the ones they'll respond to as the season progresses

When it comes to hunting deer throughout the season, versatility is key when using calls.

In preparation, a hunter can buy an assortment of calls for each phase of the season, or he can buy one adjustable call that can produce a wide range of sounds deer will respond to no matter the season phase.

Knight & Hale’s Chris Parrish said the Knight & Hale EZ Grunter XTREME is as ever-changing as a deer’s behavior. This versatile, all-season call reproduces all of the common deer grunts, including the realistic hyperventilating sounds of large bucks chasing does during the rut.

“The EZ Grunter XTREME is the only patented call on the market with inhale-exhale capability,” Parrish said. “Inhaling and exhaling into the call produces that excited hyperventilating buck sound you hear during the peak of the rut when a big buck is chasing a doe. You won’t find another call on the market that can reproduce that unique and enticing sound.”

Parrish said the call has another unique capability as well.

“When you inhale softly, the call produces a doe bleat, and when you exhale it produces a mature buck grunt. So when you inhale softly to produce a bleat and then exhale to produce a grunt, it sounds like a buck is chasing a doe that is bleating. This combo of sounds will stir up jealousy in neighboring bucks. It makes them want to run up and steal the girlfriend away from the grunting buck. Every deer hunter should have access to this unique calling capability.”

Another cool feature of the EZ Grunter XTREME is the adjustable O-ring, which can slide up and down to produce a variety of sounds.

“You can adjust it to sound like a mature buck, a young, insubordinate buck, doe bleat or fawn bleat,” he said. “Plus it makes that hyperventilating buck sound.  It covers every gamut of deer vocalizations, which makes this call useable throughout the season.”

While calling is certainly more important during certain times of the season, like during the rut, deer calls can be a handy tool for hunters throughout the different phases of the season.

“The reason the call performs so well all year long is because we precisely matched the sounds it produces with actual calls produced by live deer,” Parrish said. “We produced the reed systems to match the tonal quality of the deer we have calling on video to ensure the EZ Grunter XTREME precisely replicated those calls. We did such a good job at replicating those sounds that deer that hear the EZ Grunter XTREME are convinced they’re hearing other live deer.”

Not only does the EZ Grunter XTREME produce remarkably realistic deer vocalizations, but it is extremely user friendly, thanks to a shortened end piece for easy disassembly and the changeable wedge, reed and soundboard. The reed also locks into place, allowing it to be reassembled back to factory condition.

The EZ Grunter XTREME is perfect choice for hunters desiring one call for year-round use and easy adjustability.
