10 Quality Turkey Guns for Under $600

10 Quality Turkey Guns for Under $600

It's that time of year again, when for a few magical months each spring we take a break from whitetail hunting and whatever fishing trips we've planned to chase the ever-elusive longbeard. Turkey hunting is exciting, interactive and totally addictive. Hunters who are up for a more extreme challenge choose to bowhunt turkeys, while most welcome the chance to dust off the old shotgun and throw a bit of lead in the right direction.

A turkey gun really doesn't need to be anything fancy; it just needs to shoot straight. That said, there are certain features that differentiate some turkey guns from the others. With any turkey gun, be sure to experiment with different loads and choke tubes. A decent turkey gun should be able to put a fair amount of shot in a paper plate from about 40 yards. As dedicated gobble addicts, we've compiled a list of the 10 cheap turkeys guns that still deliver quality.

Remington 870 Express

The Remington 870 is the best-selling shotgun ever made. That says a lot. With a no-nonsense, ready to work attitude, the 870 Express is perfect for the punishing turkey hunter. Sporting a 28-inch vent rib barrel, tight turkey choke, and matte wood and barrel finishes, this versatile gun is for the no frills turkey hunter who needs a dependable gun.

Remington 887 Nitro Mag

New ArmorLokt technology makes this gun immune to unpredictable spring weather conditions because there are literally no exposed surfaces to rust. The 887 Nitro Mag is capable of shooting up to 3 ½-inch shells and is a workhorse that'™s meant to be used and abused.

Benelli Nova Pump

Weighing in at a sturdy 8 pounds, the Benelli Nova Pump comes with a 26- or 28-inch barrel and is a turkey\'s worst nightmare. The Italian influence in its design, like the checked grip and forend, not only make this gun easy on the eyes, but also a pleasure to hold and fire.

Mossberg Maverick HS12

The Mossberg Maverick HS12 isn\'t your typical turkey gun. It\'s matte black finish, black synthetic stock and receiver-mounted picatinny rail screams tactical, but don\'t let looks fool you on this over/under. With an 18.5-inch barrel and a length of pull at just over 14 inches, this compact scatter gun is perfect for the run and gun hunter. Just outfit both barrels with different choke and load combinations, and you\'ve got and versatile 12-gauge that will turn heads in camp. What would you think of us if we just picked the obvious turkey guns, anyway? Give the Maverick a try, and you won\'t break the bank or go home disappointed.
