Field Tested: Browning's X-Bolt 2 Speed Bolt-Action Rifle

Looking for a new deer hunting rifle? Browning's new-for-2024 X-Bolt 2 Speed builds on the successful features of the previous X-Bolt Speed model.

Browning's original X-Bolt Speed rifle, known for its precision, durability, and unique aesthetics featuring a Cerakote finish, camouflage stock, and a fluted sporter contour barrel, has been a popular choice for whitetail hunters over the years. For 2024, Browning has introduced a new and improved version: the X-Bolt 2 Speed.

North American Whitetail's Blake Garlock and Haynes Shelton used the X-Bolt 2 Speed in Alberta, Canada last fall, and it proved to be an effective, accurate, and versatile deer rifle. They successfully took two great deer with the new rifle – one at just over 350 yards and one during a fast-action hunting situation. These experiences demonstrated that the rifle is reliable at long distances and easy to maneuver when quick action is needed.

The X-Bolt 2 Speed features a fluted sporter contour barrel, combining lightweight construction with exceptional maneuverability. The muzzle is threaded M13x0.75, allowing for the addition of a radial muzzle brake, a thread protector cap, or the optional Browning Recoil Hawg Sporter muzzle brake for enhanced recoil reduction. It also boasts a bedded action and a free-floated barrel, ensuring smooth and consistent accuracy. The Cerakote Smoked Bronze finish offers superior metal protection, while the DLX Trigger delivers precise performance with zero creep, adjustable from 3.5 to 3.0 pounds.

The configurable Vari-Tech stock makes the X-Bolt 2 Speed feel like an extension of your body, allowing for quicker and more accurate shooting. The Vari-Tech composite stock includes a 3-way adjustment system, Browning OVIX concealment, and a thicker Inflex recoil pad for a customizable fit. Adjustments for comb height, length of pull, and grip angle ensure that the rifle adapts to your preferences, while the rubber overmolding on the gripping surfaces enhances secure handling.
