The end is near. Waterfowl and upland seasons are drawing to a close and all that remains is the hardened hunters that are counting down the final days from a blind or tromping through brushy shelter belts and cattails. So, this week on The Revolution with Jim and Trav presented by Outdoor ChannelSportsman ChannelWorld Fishing Network and MyOutdoorTV, our objective is to Bust Birds and to stay in the game until the whistle is blown. Joining us will be 3-time World Duck Calling Champion and call maker, Barnie Calef, from Drake's Migration Nation. Plus, we'll do an in-depth, exclusive, two-part interview with the director of Benelli Presents To Kill a King, Alex Joseph and it's producer, Jared Rehm. And finally, we'll wrap things up with John Gechter from Raining Skies Waterfowl.

It’s not over yet, there is still time to get out and exercise your trigger finger with a little late season waterfowl hunting. John Gechter with Raining Skies Waterfowl joins Jim and Trav to talk Colorado goose hunting. With about a month left, John says they are seeing good concentrations of birds right now, but success really comes down to scouting. Tune in for tips on how-to read the birds and use that information to set-up a lethal spread. John will then talk calling and says to keep it simple. “You don’t need to get fancy with birds. There’s contest calling and then there’s guys that shoot birds calling.” Effective calling requires hunters to read the birds, read what they are doing and wait for the birds to tell you what they like. Finally, John talks gear, his preferred ammo for bringing down geese and his go to shotgun. “On a day like today I just can’t leave my Benelli at home. I’ve never had a Benelli stick on me. I’ve had them dropped into ponds, rivers, fields, snow – they just keep on going.”

Tune in for an interview jam packed with tips from a seasoned expert on how to make the most of the final days of your waterfowl season.

Barnie Calef is a 3-time World Champion duck caller. He is 1 of only 6 men that have won 3 World Championships in the 75-year history of the contest, held in Stuttgart, Arkansas. Barnie is also the host of Drake’s Migration Nation seen on Sportsman Channel. While a large winter storm has made the weather brutal for hunters recently, Barnie says it’s still a good time to get out there and hunt. He encourages hunters to look for open water or his specialty, moving water. “I love going to rivers after freeze up, they really hold concentrations of birds.” He’ll then discuss food sources, and says that snow does not deter birds, however the ice will cause them to move and vacate the area rather quickly. Barnie will then turn his attention to calling. While Trav says you couldn’t pay him to blow a call in front of Barnie, many waterfowlers are overly confident in their calling abilities. When hunting with others he says, “I tell them, everybody calls at the ducks, if some contest judges fly by, I’ll take care of those.”

Hunters love a challenge and coming soon on Outdoor Channel you can witness the ultimate waterfowling challenge with the documentary Benelli Presents To Kill a King. This two-part documentary takes viewers along on a journey to one of the most inhospitable waterfowling environments on the planet. The two-part documentary follows Tony Vandemore, co-owner and operator of Habitat Flats, from his Missouri home to the frigid shores of the Bering Sea in search of the fabled King Eider. Hunting on St. Paul Island, the most remote of the Pribilof Islands and located 300 miles off the coast of Alaska, the hunters battle dangerously low temperatures, angry seas and extreme weather fluctuations that test the endurance of man and equipment, alike. Benelli Presents To Kill a King explores this unforgiving region that few have experienced, taking viewers to the edge of the world to witness one of the most difficult hunts ever documented.

Tune in to The Revolution for an exclusive preview of the show from Producer Jared Rehm and Director Alex Joseph. Find out more about the gear they relied on to perform in the harsh elements, the remote location and how they got there and the terrible weather they dealt with – all in the name of documenting this amazing quest for King Eider.

“You’ve got a limit of 4, so you’re not going to kill a lot of them. They’re tough to see, they come fast, they hide behind waves, so it’s a really tough hunt. You’re in such a remote location for this. You’re out in high seas, 15 foot boats, huge swells, and the weather just changes so quickly out there. You have salt water to contend with and there’s this volcanic ash that’s in the water. It’s a tough hunt, but it is something you’ll always remember.”
