For serious bass anglers, there are distinct differences between baitcasting and spinning rod-and-reel combinations that go well past their physical properties.
Depending on fishing style, as well as lure and line size, both have a place in your bass arsenal.
Simply put, baitcasting is for power fishing, such as with worms, buzz baits and spinnerbaits. Spinning is for finesse and light presentations, such as with shaky heads and drop shots.
But there’s much more to it than that, as Dr. Todd A. Kuhn explains in this episode of Beyond the Bait Powered by Streamlight — "The Right Combo: Baitcasting vs. Spinning." Learn more about selecting the right rod-and-reel combination for bass fishing in the video above.
Beyond the Bait Powered by Streamlight is a 13-episode video series on gameandfishmag.com that focusses on the best baits for bass fishing. Join Dr. Todd A.
