The leaves have turned, the mornings are a bit brisk and this week on The Revolution with Jim and Trav presented by Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel and World Fishing Network, we're going on an Avian Adventure for ducks, pheasants and turkeys. Whether you're setup to ambush turkeys in the woods, trekking through open fields for pheasant or hunkered down in a duck blind, we've tapped into veteran outdoorsmen and women's vast years of experience to help aid you all in your fall hunting pursuits. Master wild game chef and host of The Sporting Chef Scott Leysath will dish up some scrumptious recipes and Jill Gechter from Cinch will handout the latest 411 on the hottest new hunting apparel. Sure-Shot Game Calls President and CEO Charlie Holder is going to dive into strategic waterfowl calling and the Yentzen Classic, Joshua Holland with Kut'em Outdoors will tackle patterning and harvesting early season ducks and our very own Mrs. Bunny has got the current stats and season dates for pheasants and turkeys.

Scott Leysath is The Sporting Chef and you can see his delicious wild game concoctions on Sportsman Channel Sundays at 12:30 p.m. ET. Tune in to The Revolution for an informative lesson from The Sporting Chef on how to make the most of your game birds in the kitchen. Scott is an advocate of using everything you can from the game you harvest. Many hunters breast out their pheasants, ducks, geese and other game birds and simply throw away the rest. This practice means hunters are missing out on a prime opportunity to add more great natural flavor in the cooking process, rather than artificial flavorings like bullion. Tune in to find out how Scott makes a pheasant stock with braised pheasant legs and turns it into a delicious Pheasant Leg Stew. When it comes to cooking game birds, Scott cautions outdoorsmen and women against taking a whole bird, cubing it up and throwing it in a pan to cook. He says, “You don’t cook a whole cow, and you shouldn’t cook a whole pheasant. There are different parts of the bird and of the ducks that require different kinds of cooking.”

There are plenty of species out there that are less desirable when it comes to table fare, but that doesn’t deter The Sporting Chef. Scott discusses preparing one of these undesirables, Coot, and how he made a bar full of hunters and farmers believers with his Coot Cacciatore.

Scott encourages listeners to check out the new MyOutdoorTV app to see an extensive archive of shows that will up their game in the kitchen. If you use the promo code “SportingChef” you can get the first month for only $0.99.

Charlie Holder is the President and CEO of Sure-Shot Game Calls. With a long history of innovation and excellence backing their name, Sure-Shot Game Calls offers an extensive line of duck, deer, goose, small game and turkey calls.

Tune in as Charlie joins The Revolution to talk waterfowl calls and he will start with their best-selling duck call, “The Yentzen Classic”.  Since the 1950’s, the Yentzen has been a staple at Sure-Shot and was the first double reed ever patented.  This versatile call can be used on a wide variety of birds as it emulates mallards or any species of hen. Charlie notes that this call is so adaptable it can be used for gadwalls, mallards, teal and is even used overseas in countries like Ukraine, New Zealand and Australia, with success.

He’ll then discuss wood versus composite calls and how they differ in the sound they produce. Charlie says having a variety of different calls on your lanyard, both wood and composite, is important because they are tools with different applications to bring the birds in. He’ll then discuss the “Classic Triple Reed”. The extra reed built in does not change the sounds, but rather acts as a back-up in the event that one reed breaks or malfunctions. “All you’ve got to do is take that call apart, flip the reed system over, and now you’ve got a brand new reed. It’s like 4-wheel drive on your duck call.” Tune in to find out more about Sure-Shot Game Calls’ quality call offerings.

Jill Gechter from CINCH is back on The Revolution to talk about some great apparel that should be staples in every outdoorsman’s closet this season. If you aren’t familiar with CINCH, we won’t judge you, but you need to look them up! CINCH makes apparel suited for people who live the western lifestyle – for the cowboys and outdoorsmen that live life outdoors. Tune in to find out about some great pieces for men, women and children. Jill starts out with a Pullover Hoodie a cotton-poly fleece hoodie with MAX5 camo in earth tones that is great for layering. She then previews their brand new Heavyweight Bonded Fleece full zip jacket with water and wind barriers, as well as sherpa lining to combat the frigid temperatures. CINCH also offers concealed carry options with the Concealed Carry Bonded Jacket featuring MAX1 camo, concealed carry pockets and a Velcro backed holster. Finally, Jill offers up a great selection for women with the Hybrid Bonded Jacket, a perfect pairing of camo meets style. Tune in for more info, and before you buy new camo this season, be sure to check out the CINCH line of outdoor gear.

Waterfowl seasons are opening across the country, but how do you bag your limit in warmer temperatures? Josh Holland with Kut’em Outdoors says that hunting the early season, before the migration pushes the birds down from the north, can require some skill. Until the cool weather pushes birds down, waterfowlers will be hunting local birds. Josh says you can’t underestimate local birds because they’ve seen your spreads and your set-ups, they are smart, and that means you have to elevate your game. The secret to success is in the scouting. Josh encourages hunters to identify three key places: the roost, where they feed and where they rest mid-day. If you can identify these three places, you can effectively hunt the same birds three times a day. Josh explains how splitting into groups and sitting on different key spots can yield rewards for everyone. Find out more about hunting early season waterfowl, l and more, from Josh Holland of Kut’em Outdoors.
