Explaining she just wanted to take photos, a woman was caught walking a leashed fawn at the Alamo on the Friday before Independence Day.

Charges are pending for a woman visiting the Alamo in San Antonio who was seen walking with a leashed whitetail fawn.

The woman told authorities she just wanted to take photos for the family. A Texas game warden told her she was breaking the law.

According to the latest Game Warden Field Notes from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department — a news-release compilation of recent law enforcement incidents — the woman became irate when a Bexar County game warden told her state law forbade possession of game animals.

The TPWD report was released on July 28, but the incident occurred June 30, according to the Houston Chronicle.

“The woman claimed she came to the Alamo to take Fourth of July family photos,” the Texas agency said in the news release.

Alamo security called authorities after seeing the woman walking on the grounds with the leashed animal. The warden, who questioned the woman about picking up the fawn along the side of the road, “tried to explain the state law forbidding possession of game animals, but she would not listen and became very upset,” the news release stated.

The fawn was seized and taken to a licensed Texas Parks and Wildlife rehabilitator.

Charges are pending.

“Tourists were educated at the Alamo about [not] attempting to take game animals as pets,” the agency said.
