Today’s modern broadheads have compact blades that reduce wind planing. These heads fly better -- and at higher speeds -- under a wider range of conditions. Of course, mechanical broadheads are always an accurate option, with a number of advances in how the latest heads open. Since it is the broadhead that ultimately gets the job done, the latest advancements should attract plenty of attention.
The MX-3 is Muzzy’s version of the compact, fixed-blade broadhead. Compact blades make the head more accurate when shot at higher arrow speeds. The MX-3 has Muzzy’s proprietary screw-on point that holds the blades securely from the front, providing a rock-solid attachment. The MX-3 weighs 100 grains and has a 1 1/4-inch cutting diameter. The three blades are .025 inch thick. Muzzy also has a new head for 2008 called the SG-X that is actually a small-game head with a judo-style point and Muzzy’s wicked Trocar tip screwed on the front. The SG-X weighs 100 grains.
