A Guyton, Ga., angler set the state’s first men’s state record for vermilion snapper, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

Scott Funderburk’s 3-pound, 11-ounce vermilion snapper was caught while bottom fishing Aug. 18 at the Savannah Snapper Banks, five nautical miles east of Navy Tower R6.

The fish was weighed on a certified scale at the Sapelo Saltwater Fishing Club weighmaster’s house.

His catch will be added to the state-record list published at www.coastalGaADNR.org and included in the 2019 Georgia Sport Fishing Regulations.

Click here for the current list of men’s and women’s saltwater fish records, and info on how to submit a fish for record consideration. In addition to an accurate weight, provide several color photographs of the fish with the application. There are minimum weights for several species.

A new state record must be weighed on a scale certified by the Georgia Department of Agriculture and in front of at least one witness. Certified scales can be found at businesses like seafood markets, grocery stores and farm-supply stores.

IDAHO

Monster Catch-and-Release Record

Dylan Smith of Boise caught a 41.5-inch lake trout in late-July to set a state catch-and-release record, according to Idaho Fish and Game. The previous record was 39.5 inches, caught through the ice last year.

The fish was caught at Payette Lake near McCall.
