California Mako Puts On Aerial Show

by Game & Fish Staff   |  July 25th, 2012 2

Jumping Mako! Here’s a cool video from Mission Bay, California that shows the speed and power of a big mako shark. Alex Beck, using a fly rod, hooked into a mako that was an estimated 10 feet long and weighing 800 pounds. Beck was participating in a the…you guessed it…Flying Mako tournament, which is a charity flyfishing catch and release tournament that promotes sustainability, conservation and sound management of mako sharks and other apex predators. Warning, there is some adult language involved in this video.

"Adult language?" It sounded pretty juvenile to me.

ifiwereking, you got that right. The dumb shark commanded more respect.

By the way, I didn't know that Mako sharks (or any sharks for that matter) jumped out of the water . . . .
